FORIMMEDIATE RELEASE BRUINS ANNOUNCE JOHN FERGUSON AS PROVIDENCE GM Providence, RI - Boston Bruins General Manager Don Sweeney announced yesterday, September 15, that Executive Director of Player Personnel John Ferguson will also serve as General Manager of the Providence Bruins Ferguson is entering his third season in the Bruins organization in 2016-17, having spent the last two seasons as the team’s Executive Director of Personnel. In that role, Ferguson scouts at the professional and amateur levels with an eye to adding both prospects and roster players to the team. He also serves as an advisor in evaluating potential trades, signings and other transactions. Prior to joining the Bruins staff, Ferguson spent six seasons as the Director of Pro Scouting for the San Jose Sharks (2008-14), four-plus seasons as Vice President and General Manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs (2003-08), and six seasons as Assistant General Manager and Director of Hockey Operations with the St. Louis Blues (1997-2003). He has also been both an amateur and professional scout for the Ottawa Senators. The Montreal native played college hockey at Providence College and was drafted by Montreal in the 12th round of the 1985 NHL Entry Draft. He played four seasons at the AHL level before earning his law degree in 1995 and he was a player agent for one season in 1996-97. - - - - - The Providence Bruins are the American Hockey League affiliate of the NHL’s Boston Bruins, playing their home games at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center in Providence, RI. Disappointing loss for Harvard and Ryan the other night where they had a lead and weren’t able to close it out. I know that Ryan and the family had been thinking about what may or may not lie ahead but they had been focused right up until the loss on Friday night to staying on the task at hand. Once that was over with I had an opportunity to speak with his family advisor and with the family and with Ryan himself. We just worked through what looked like the opportunity he was looking for and we were happy to provide that.

I appreciate you guys all jumping on board to discuss the contract. On getting this done before camp… Again, the timing is – every negotiation really has its own timeline. We went through an extended period with both Brandon and Charlie last year. The landscape is just, there are a lot of unknowns associated with where we’re going in the immediate future and hopefully things, with all the positive news associated with vaccines and a hopeful climate that could potentially exist, that we get back on track. But we have some ground to cover and I think that was part of the discussions this time around with Jake and Rick and realizing that we explored a longer-term deal. And it’s probably on me that it didn’t come to fruition, we focused on a shorter term given the landscape and the uncertainty. On the leaguewide challenges… I’m not going to speak on a global perspective of the league’s dynamic. We have to address another need — if not one, if not two from a depth perspective, but also the handling of heavy minutes in all situations. We’re going to try to be aggressive in that front and see if we can address the need. On his communication with David Krejci… I have been in touch with David, and I’m going to respect all of his privacy and decisions in this point in time. Has not given further indication, as you referenced before he’s got some things he wants to address. Then he’ll let us know. But yes, I have been in regular communication with David, and there’s no timeline to make decisions.
