Re: Support for SwedishAmerican Hospital Revised Modernization CON Application (Project No. 17-019)

Dear Ms. Avery:

We write to share our continued enthusiastic support for the CON application of SwedishAmerican Hospital referenced above. With a reduced project cost and further reduction of the facility's pediatric beds, the modified project addresses the important goals of providing cost-effective, modern health care facilities to the people of Illinois while still bringing $126 million in project spending that will itself benefit the greater Rockford area.

SwedishAmerican Hospital has been a vital part of the greater Rockford area for more than 106 years, and this proposed modernization is critically needed to allow this venerable institution to continue its track record of excellent service for another century. This project will help assure availability of quality health care throughout the entire Rockford area, including accessibility of first-rate health care services to the medically underserved and indigent. SwedishAmerican Hospital is located within, and serves those who reside in, a federally designated medically underserved region.

We understand no public hearing was requested on the modification to the project and, to date, no opposition has been posted to the modified application since its submission to the Review Board over two months ago. Throughout this long application process, which commenced back in April, numerous elected officials and organizations have formally submitted written comments in support of this CON application, including nearly every acute care facility in the region. The following list of formal supporters reflects the overwhelming support and need for this modernization project:

Dear Chairwoman Olson:

I previously supported SwedishAmerican Hospital's CON application referenced above, and I continue to very strongly reiterate my support for this important project. This modernization strategy will better facilitate patient care by creating a new four story Women's and Children's health center, and by converting all patient rooms in the existing facility to private rooms.

The total GSF for the facility will be 215,634, which includes the new 115,000 square foot Women's and Children's Center. The projected cost is estimated at $126 million. This project will benefit the greater Rockford area by generating 600 trade jobs during construction, as well as dozens of additional new health care job opportunities upon completion. The modernization of the existing facilities and the construction of a new Women's and Children's Health Center will provide critical modern health care services for the Rockford region.

Sincerely,
