WEB.COM TOUR STORYLINES – Week of September 3 rd

The Web.com Tour is idle one last week before the final stretch run of seven tournaments begins next week (Sept. 13-16) at the 23 rd Albertsons Boise (Idaho) Open presented by Kraft. “The 25” who earn PGA TOUR cards for 2013 will be determined at the end of this period.

ROBERT STREB / CONSISTENT, NOW VICTORIOUS – In the 12 tournaments preceding his Sunday win at the Mylan Classic outside Pittsburgh, Robert Streb was as consistent a performer as there’s been on the Web.com Tour this year. Since April 29 th , Streb has five top-eight finishes and only one missed cut. During this period, he has remained between 14 th and 26 th on the money list. In capturing his first professional win on a national level, the 25-year-old Oklahoma native jumped all the way from 23 rd to 4 th . A 2009 Kansas State University graduate, Streb became the sixth rookie to win on Tour this year and 13 th first-time winner in 20 events.

RYDER CUP REPRESENTATION GROWS AGAIN – On Monday, Davis Love III made his final four selections for this year’s U.S. Ryder Cup team. Nine of the 12 team members are Web.com Tour alumni. This compares with seven in 2010 and five in 2008. Alums who will play for the U.S. at Medinah Country Club in Chicago later this month are Keegan Bradley, Jason Dufner, Jim Furyk, , Matt Kuchar, Webb Simpson, Brandt Snedeker, Steve Stricker and Bubba Watson .

FOLLOWING IN THEIR FEDEXCUP FOOTSTEPS? – Web.com Tour alums Jim Furyk (2010) and Bill Haas (2011) were the ones holding the FedExCup trophy at the conclusion of the 41-event competition the last two years. With 70 players remaining and two events yet to be played (2 nd in points) and Brandt Snedeker (4 th ) are presently in the best positions to follow in the Furyk/Haas footsteps. Jason Dufner (7 th ), Zach Johnson (8 th ) and Bubba Watson (10 th ) are next in line. In all, 41 alumni made the 70- player cut after Monday’s Deutsche Bank Championship. Near misses were five players who competed on the Web.com Tour last year – Jonas Blixt (71 st ), John Merrick (72 nd ), Ken Duke (76 th ), Roberto Castro (77 th ) and Harris English (79 th ). Furyk (21 st ) and Haas (28 th ) are still very much in contention.

STREB IS AUGUST’S PLAYER OF THE MONTH – Robert Streb capped a very productive string of four straight tournaments with his victory on Sunday at Southpointe Golf Club. It was preceded by a T6 at the Price Cutter Charity Championship in Springfield, Mo., a T8 at the Midwest Classic presented by Cadillac near Kansas City and a T41 at the News Sentinel Open presented by Pilot in Knoxville, Tenn. Streb’s play resulted in him being named Web.com Tour Player of the Month for August. His final-round scoring average in his last four starts was 65.75.

FRED FUNK TO MAKE FIRST TOUR START AT TPC SAWGRASS IN OCTOBER – Former PLAYERS champion and Ponte Vedra Beach resident Fred Funk will make his first-ever Web.com Tour start next month (Oct. 25-28) in front of family and friends at the Winn-Dixie Jacksonville Open presented by Planters at TPC Sawgrass/Dye’s Valley Course. The 56-year-old Funk said, “I’ve seen the evolution of the Web.com Tour over the years and been incredibly impressed by it. I can’t wait to tee it up alongside the future stars of the PGA TOUR.” Were he to capture the Winn-Dixie title he would become the seventh player to win an event on the PGA TOUR, Web.com Tour and Champions Tour.

BEN KOHLES KEEPS UP THE GOOD PLAY – After taking a week off to recover from a wild July-August stretch, Ben Kohles returned to play at the Mylan Classic last week. He continued his excellent play, recording a fifth-place finish, his third top five in four Web.com Tour starts. The Cary, N.C. resident became the first player in Tour history to win his first two starts as a professional, grabbing titles in Columbus, Ohio in late July and Omaha, Neb. in early August. He earned $24,000 in Pittsburgh and remains No. 3 on the money list.

MATT WEIBRING RISING IN THE RANKINGS – July and August were also good months for Matt Weibring . The 32-year-old from Dallas, Texas made the cut in all seven tournaments he played, finishing 30 th or better in all but one. He recorded finishes of T15, T4, T10 and T2 in the last four. Weibring’s play shot him all the way up the Web.com Tour money list from No. 208 prior to the in mid- July to his current position of 39 th .

SEE-SAW CONTEST FOR NO. 1 CONTINUES – finished T19 in the Mylan Classic. His paycheck for $7,800 was enough to overtake the idle Luke List . Wittenberg leads List by $3,232. Wittenberg has held the top spot after four tournaments this year, List five.

BIRTHDAY BOYS – Celebrating birthdays during the off week are Guy Boros (Sept. 4/turns 48), Brice Garnett (6 th /29), Tag Ridings (7 th /38), Skip Kendall (9 th /48) and Hudson Swafford (9 th /25).

NEXT WEEK – The Web.com Tour heads to Boise, Idaho for the 23rd playing of the Albertsons Boise Open presented by Kraft (Sept. 13-16).
