Investec's Russel, runs for rhinos

One of Investec's private banking member in London, Russel, ran the London Marathon with the objective of raising funds for Care for Wild Rhino Sanctuary.

Russel raised funds through the Givengain website https://www.givengain.com/cc/runlondon4rhino/ and raised funds that were dedicated to two of our critically endangered black rhino orphans, Phoebe and Badger. We at Care for Wild Rhino Sanctuary are truly blessed to have such amazing people such as Russesl from Investec taking initiative to make a difference in the lives of these amazing animals. Thank you Russel. VISITORS AT CARE FOR WILD RHINO SANCTUARY

ALAN GRIFFITH & KONICA MINOLTA

Care for Wild Rhino Sanctuary welcomed Alan Griffith, Managing Director of Konica Minolta this month. We are proud to have such an amazing amount of support from Konica Minolta who sponsor the Magnificent 7 orphaned rhinos. Konica Minolta have been on the Care for Wild Team supporting Annie, River, Tyson, Venus, Meha, Tank and Satara since their arrival at Care for Wild, through their rehabilitation and into their re-introduction phases. It is always a pleasure to see the orphans enjoying the freedom of the bush.We could not have done this without the support of Alan and his team at Konica Minolta.

DEUTSCHE INTERNATIONALE SCHULE Today we had a very special delivery of beautifully hand-decorated milk bottles for our orphaned rhinos!

Sabine Anderson, a teacher from Deutsche Internationale Schule in , South Africa, has been teaching her students about our orphaned rhinos and the poaching crisis, and as part of their Art Through Recycling programme, encouraged them to decorate beautiful milk bottles for each of our rhino babies! With each rhino’s name lovingly painted onto each bottle, we were amazed at the love that had gone into this project. We are so grateful to Sabine and Baby Rhino Rescue for this project, and for teaching the next generation about the importance of saving rhinos!

SABIE VALLEY COFFEE

This month, we had the pleasure of hosting the team from Sabie Valley Coffee. The team have been a valuable part of Care for Wild Rhino Sanctuary in raising funds and awareness in our local area. We are honored to have the support of such a wonderful and enthusiastic team and look forward to their next visit. Thank you!

LIONS AND PUMA RUGBY PLAYERS The Care for Wild Rhino Sanctuary had the pleasure of being joined by players from the Lions and Puma rugby teams.

We are incredibly privileged to have had their company as we showed them the work that goes into rehabilitating orphaned rhinos in the aftermath of poaching.

Care for Wild are so excited to kick off our #RugbyForRhinos campaign with these amazing guys and Joe Pietersen from Nkombe Rhino! From all of us at Care for Wild we would like to say the biggest thank you to all of the players for joining us and for becoming a voice for rhinos.

Thanks to the Lions (Julian Redelinghuys, , Marnus Schoeman, and ) and the (Willie Engelbrecht, Jerome Pretorius, Nardus van der Walt, DeeJay Terblanche, Abrie Griesel and Jeandre Rudolph) for their visit!

ARRIVAL OF ARTHUR, THE BRAVE

In the early hours of Sunday, the 20th May 2018, a SANParks Section Ranger received a radio call from field rangers alerting the team that a gunshot had been heard in the Skukuza section of the Kruger National Park. Helicopter support was deployed and soon after a deceased white rhino cow with her live calf was located. Both horns had been removed from the cow and the calf had serious injuries to his back and right foot. Veterinarian Dr. Peter Buss stabilized the calf before it was transported by helicopter to Care for Wild Rhino Sanctuary. Arthur, as he is now aptly named, was luckily not dehydrated as he had drunk from his mother that same morning before she was killed.

Arthur, unfortunately sustained injuries during his fight to try and save his mother. He had a cut to his right front toenail which split the nail down to the nail-bed, and a 4-inch gash on his back that cut through cartilage very close to his spine. Petronel Nieuwoudt, the Founder of Care for Wild, put in an urgent call to a highly qualified medical team and explained the situation. In the following week, Dr Ferreira du Plessis and Dr Albertus Coetzee checked on little Arthur and treated his wounds. Arthur is being monitored closely by his Care Takers.

We would like to thank all the people involved in Arthur's rescue, his wound care, his milk provisions and his rehabilitation. We are extremely grateful for all the love, support and well wishes we have received as a team. We regularly do updates on Arthur's progress on our social media through Facebook and Instagram.

Its always Summer time, even in winter!

For all our Summer lovers, we are happy to report that Summer is still doing well and enjoying her time in the camp with her crash-mates Rose Petal, Khanya, Rubybelle, Leo and Faye. We are very excited to announce that we will be releasing a song and video specially for Summer.

THANK YOU'S

Care for Wild Rhino Sanctuary has been a pre-winter wonderland this month. With the cold, and unforeseen wet, winter weather making it's entrance this month already, Care for Wild has been preparing for the winter months ahead. With this in mind, the orphaned rhinos, APU horses and K9 dog unit members, are in need of extra supplies. Food, bedding, blankets and gas heaters are all a major daily and nightly necessity at the Sanctuary.

We would like to thank our wonderful online shoppers for purchasing food, medication and other supplies for our orphaned rhinos and Anti-Poaching animals here at the sanctuary. The support we have received from our online shoppers has made a massive difference for us at Care for Wild Rhino Sanctuary.

Care for Wild Rhino Sanctuary would like to thank all of our Amazing Sponsors, old and new, for their commitment to ensuring that all the animals are able to get everything they need to be happy and healthy. We would not be able to do what we do without your support. Thank you.

We would like to also say a special thank you to Baby Rhino Rescue for another warm night-pen for our baby orphans to stay warm through this winter.

We would also like to take this opportunity to thank our volunteers for their tireless and willing hands though this time of the year. Your time and effort, day and night, is invaluable to the staff and the orphans in our care. Thank you!

OUR MISSION

Care For Wild Rhino Sanctuary is located on a beautiful game reserve in the heartland of Mpumalanga, South Africa, where we’ve set up a treatment and care centre where we can tend to injured or orphaned animals until they are well enough to be rehabilitated into the wild.

Our mission is to save black and white rhinos from extinction. We are committed to rescue abandoned, injured, and orphaned rhinos and to rehabilitate them wherever possible. We enlist the help of veterinarians, nutritionists, ecologists, and other specialists, to ensure the successful rehabilitation and release of these animals. Over the years, Care for Wild Rhino Sanctuary has grown to be the largest rhino sanctuary and orphanage in the world. This has been made possible through hard work, trust, dedication, and everlasting partnerships.
