While we navigate through the COVID-19 Pandemic we ask that you be patient with the program and expectations that you may have prior to COVID-19. We are all working hard everyday to adapt to this unique circumstance and can assure you that regardless of the conditions set forth by the Provincial Health Body and/or Federal Government we will do our best to satisfy the program needs. In the event there is another lockdown we have previously been able to develop a web-based training portal for the individual players in the program and would continue to evolve this opportunity. In the event we are fortunate enough to advance to Phase Two we will all look forward to being able to participate in more competitive and demanding training sessions with games. Again, be patient as we work through this unique set of circumstances. COVID-19

Here are the measures we have put in place to keep our staff and players safe while attending training during this difficult time. • Pre-screening – Please complete the BC COVID-19 self- assessment tool before coming to either facility. A link will be available on our website for your use. If you are experiencing symptoms, or are not feeling well, we ask that you stay home. • Give yourself Time – We ask that you arrive at the training facility no more than 15 minutes before your start time. • Face masks + Gloves – We welcome all staff and patrons to wear masks and/or gloves, however, this is not mandatory. • Limited facilities – Please come dressed and ready to play, as washroom facilities will be limited at this time. • Cleaning – Through sanitization and cleaning of all high touched surfaces, high traffic areas, and washrooms will be completed on a regular basis throughout each day. COVID-19

• Clean hands – We will provide plenty of hand sanitizer for your use, and encourage hand washing by all our staff throughout the facility. • In the event any player or staff member from a team is tested positive for the COVID Virus, the team in question will immediately cease training and be quarantined for 14-days. If and only when each player and staff member is tested for the Corona Virus with a negative result will training even be considered. • The responsibility for testing under such a circumstance will fall to the individual family with the results communicated accordingly back to the team manager/coaching staff. • Once it has been deemed safe from negative test results the next course of action can and will be determined in consultation with medical expertise first, soccer related administration second and the Van Island Wave Leadership/Management Team third. • We will be constantly monitoring the situation and updating our processes as necessary. ORGANIZATION & COMMUNICATION

The key part of any successful organization is communication. For the program to be successful open lines of communication will be established between all participating members, from the coaches, to the players, parents, managers, PFC leadership staff and team managers. We will work hard to ensure the lines of communication remain open and clear at all times. In addition to the individual team managers and coaches, there will be two administrative contacts available for the Van Island Wave Program. Joe Wood & Giuliano Caserio will both be based out of the ITC and available for any questions related to the Van Island Wave Program. LynLinda PakosPakos Pakosisis alsoalso goinggoing toto serveserve atat thethe PlayerPlayer Liason and can be approached at anytime to help answer any questions regarding the Van Island Wave Program. PARENT MEETINGS

Our goal is to coordinate parent meetings for each team to present our ideas to the families participating in the program. The goal of these meetings will be for the teams to become familiar with one another, to allow the coaches to outline their team plan for the season and introduce the team management staff and there will be representation from the Van Island Wave Leadership Team present. Each of the teams will be notified well in advance of the time, date and location for the respective parent meeting. INDIVIDUAL TEAM MEETINGS WITH VAN ISLE WAVE LEADERSHIP STAFF

Our goal is to coordinate individual team meetings with the Van Island Wave Leadership group to share their experiences from the CPL Tournament and introduce the Van Isle Wave “Powered by PFC” Program Goals. Each of the teams will be notified well in advance of the time, date and location for each individual team meeting with the Van Island Wave Leadership Staff. GUEST PLAYERS

The ability to bring in players in on trial will remain the responsibility and discresion of the Van Island Wave Coaching Staff and Van Island Wave Leadership Group. Any and all guest players will be recognized as being “on trial” and not be deemed more than a guest player for the duration of their respective trial. It is critical in evaluating players “on-trial” that the program be granted the freedom to operate in a professional and respectful manner at all times. In the event the presence of “guest players” presents a problem and/or concern for any parent be sure to contact Lyn Pakos to express your concern regarding the trial process that can and will be employed by Van Island Wave Model. Any and all players interested in the Van Island Wave Program must communicate with their respective club Technical Director rather than reach out or try to communicate directly with the Van Island Wave Staff. The Technical Director can then communicate with the Van Isle Wave Staff on behalf of the interested player. MENTAL CONDITIONING PROGRAM

Zoran Stojkovic is a Mental Performance Specialist who believes that we're all born to flourish. The mental conditioning program will equip Van Island Wave Players with mental skills to be the best player they can be in high-pressure situations on the field. Typical results include:

• Personalized pre-match routines • Enhanced confidence, improved composure, and elevated concentration • Motivation and powerful goal setting techniques • Optimized energy management strategies and recovery protocols • Improved team communication and connection

Parents looking for virtual 1-on-1 sessions for their athlete should connect with Zoran ([email protected]). STRENGTH & FITNESS

Chris Hinton is the PFC Strength & Fitness Coach (BSc Kin, NSCA CSCS) will provide an opportunity for all Van Isle Wave Athletes to fully develop their respective physical strength and fitness to the program. • High Performance Environment • Athlete/Coach expectations • Demands • Core Competencies (Agility, Coordination, strength, power, Game/practice knowledge) • Overall understanding of environment • LTAD Model • Warm-Up & Cool downs • Testing STRENGTH & FITNESS

• Non-Sport Specific Training • Weights • Agility • Speed • Power • Mobility & Flexibility • Nutrition • Athlete educational sessions • Injury Reduction • Specific training to reduce injury risks • Foundational/Functional Movement patterns • Foundational Strength • Return to Play • Protocols • Therapists VIDEO ANALYSIS

The Van Isle Wave Program has the added benefit of video-taping games with Veo Sports Cameras. The games will be accessible to the players and staff on a web-based platform that will be password protected. The video footage will then be used by the Van Isle Wave Program to provide match analysis for the individual teams, to build out a video based learning portal for the entire program and allow the age appropriate players to gain access to video for the creation of promotional videos for post-secondary scholarship and playing opportunities. The benefit of match analysis is well documented and a very large part of the modern game. The added benefit of also being able to utilize the professional team games and video analysis from these will create a unique blend as we build the Van Isle Wave Program under a professional game model. COLLEGE PREPATORY PROGRAM

The Van Isle Wave Program will be working towards encouraging, educating and assisting the U16-U17 teams with a College Progression Program. The program will prepare and outline for the players and parents of the requirements, tools and methods for exploring post-secondary playing and scholarship opportunities. Through a combination of creating an online platform that would include a highlight video, playing resume, references and outline both academic goals and academic standing. With the addition on mapping out a geographical plan, an academic based model for exploring which schools provide the required area of study, as well as setting goals and timelines to help facilitate the process- there is a lot to be done when exploring post-secondary options for young athletes. Historically, there have been an abundance of Island based players who have gone on the experience successful post-secondary playing and academic careers across North America at the NCAA, NAIA, U- Sports and Pacwest Conference. GOALKEEPER DEVELOPMENT

Mark Village will be spearheading the goalkeeper training for the Van Isle Wave Program. The former Pacific FC keeper will be focusing on developing the high-performance goalkeepers on the Island. Goalkeepers will train with their team and receive a goalkeeper specific weekly program from Mark Village on Mondays that will highlight key fundamentals within the goalkeeper position. The Monday Night Goalkeeper Training will commence when Mark returns from the CPL Tournament in Charlottetown, PEI. During this time there will be specialized goalkeeper training available each weekend for the goalkeepers that can and will be communicated once the times and days are confirmed. In addition to Mark Village, frequent visits from Current PFC 1st Team Goalkeepers Nolan Wirth, , Emil Gazdov. PLAYER EXPECTATIONS

The role of the Van Island Player in the Van Isle Wave Program is an excellent opportunity for youth to further their understanding for the game of soccer and absorb the culture of a professional soccer environment. Which is a unique experience to Vancouver Island, one that can and will shape the local soccer community for years to come. As a player you are entering the program at an exciting stage, the building blocks are now being created for a very successful youth development model that starts with the Van Island Wave program being “Powered by PFC.” Time management plays a fundamental role in the success and development of the modern youth soccer player. Which means, additional training outside of the Van Island Wave Program can and will be addressed. There are a tremendous amount of soccer academies, school soccer programs, high school team sports, as well as the academic demands placed on the Van Island Wave Players. Our intention is to facilitate a process in which the mental and physical needs of the player will be monitored, managed and addressed. In return we ask that all players be able to monitor the demands on their time and communicate openly with their respective team coaching staff about their schedule during the Van Isle Wave season. PARENT EXPECTATIONS

The role of the parent in modern youth sport is to provide support in the most productive and positive way for their child. It is becoming more and more common for parents to interfere with the opportunities provided by sport to youth, which will not serve as a distraction in the Van Isle Wave Program. The game is for the kids and must be returned to the kids. With this in mind, the role of the parent is to allow their child the opportunity to explore and learn life lessons provided by the participation in sport. This is and will be the common goal for all participant in the Van Isle Wave Program. It is critical for the parent to allow the player the opportunity to grow and develop as a player in the environment provided by the Van Isle Wave Program. Parents will need to learn to trust, rely on and believe in the program ideals. With time, the PFC involvement in the Van Isle Wave Program can and will provide tremendous benefit to the program participants, as well as local soccer community as a whole. Importantly, progress takes time and support. Parents unable to support the program ideals will not be tolerated. The Van Isle Wave Program is being run by a professional organization that has been developed to help the next generation of soccer enthusiasts work towards achieving their goals in the game. 6 Week Return to Train / Play Program – Female Program U13-U17 WAVE Training August 17th - August 23rd Return to Train / Play - Week 1 Days Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday Sunday 17th 18th 19th 20th 21st 22nd 23th
