December 2019 REGION OVERVIEW

The North America region is looking at hotel projects in the USA, Canada and the Caribbean. In total this region has 1,501 new hotels with 321,005 rooms in the pipeline.

2 PROJECT CATEGORIES

73% of all 1,501 hotel projects that are currently arising in the North America region will be 4 star hotels. In terms of the number of hotel rooms the ratio between first class and luxury hotels is 60% to 40%.

In 2019 424 new hotels have opened their doors in the North America region. Looking at 2020 more than 44% of all current registered projects are scheduled to celebrate their inauguration.

The 1,501 hotel projects in the North America region are separated in five different phases due to their construction progress. 38% of all projects are currently under construction. The 86 hotels which are currently in the pre-opening phase are expected to celebrate their inauguration within the next six months.

70% of all hotels which are currently in the pipeline in North America will be branded by any type of hotel chain. Only 30% of all new hotels will be independently owned and managed. In terms of new development, Marriott International is the leading hotel group in the North America region with 330 projects in the pipeline, followed by Hilton Worldwide (251 projects) and the InterContinental Hotels Group (63 projects).
