1. Is God good? Why evil/death?
2. Is Scripture trustworthy?
3. Are we special?
4. Reason for the Cross
5. Reality of Heaven Three types of evidence affirming a literal Adam and Eve:
A. Scripture
B. History
C. Genetics
A. Evidence from Scripture New Testament
NT Authors extensively quote Genesis as history, especially Genesis 1-11.
They specifically speak of the Fall, the serpent, Adam, Eve, Cain, Abel, Seth, Enoch, the Flood, and Noah.
Twice as many references to Adam and Eve in NT than OT. Two Creation Accounts?
Genesis 1 = six days.
th Genesis 2 = 6 day (zoomed in).
Gen 2:4 (NKJV) This is the history of the heavens and the earth when they were created, in the day that the LORD God made the earth and the heavens,
Gen 2:5 (NKJV) before any plant of the field was in the earth and before any herb of the field had grown…there was no man to till the ground;
Gen 2:8 (NKJV) The LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden, and there He put the man whom He had formed. Two Creation Accounts? Strong’s Concordance: Gen 2:5 (NKJV) Before any plant of the field was in the earth and before any herb of the field had grown… there was no man to till the ground. put Gen the 2:8 man (NKJV) whom The He LORD God had formed. planted a garden eastward in Eden, and there He
. Does Genesis show that God created Adam and Eve first and plants later?
No, the Bible does not say that. Chapter 1 of Genesis clearly indicates that God created plants on day 3.
So what did God create on Day six?
On day six God made three things – Adam and Eve, land animals, and a special garden. The world was already full of all kinds of plants, but It says that God planted that very special garden of Eden, presumably with adapted (domesticated) plants appropriate for gardening.
2. Historical Evidence Historically, who has believed in Adam?
The ancient Jews, many modern orthodox Jews.
The authors of New Testament, including Jesus.
The early church Fathers.
The Catholic Church and all the Popes.
The Protestant Church. Luther/Calvin, etc.
The great evangelists – Wesley, Moody, etc.
Most of today’s Bible-believing Christians.
Mohammad, most orthodox Muslims.
Today - perhaps half of humanity (up to ~4 billion).
Biblical Genealogies from Adam
Adam – 1st generation (Genesis 2)
Abraham – 21st generation (Genesis 1-11)
David – 34th generation (I Chronicles 1)
th Jesus – 77 generation (Luke 3) Many modern genealogies
go back to Adam
Modern Europeans ~ 150 generations
Modern Arabs ~ 150 generations
