9.2 Confirmation of proceedings of 8th Governing Council meeting: Principal confirmed about the sending of the copies the proceedings of the 8th GC meeting to the members which the members approved the same.

1 9.3 (8.3a) i) Conducting of Bridge Course in Applied Science, Mathematics and English Communication. Resolution of 8th GC Meeting: It was resolved to continue the efforts and also to envisage new methods to improve the results.

Action Taken: Bridge course was conducted for the students of 1st Semester as per the suggestion of honorable members, in Engineering Mathematics for Hostel students and for those students, who were poor in the subject, between 6.30pm and 8pm during week days and holidays by a resource person from our polytechnic and PG students of University. Also, as a special initiative, classes were conducted by our staff, before the examination, in Engineering Mathematics. 1.Engineering Mathematics-I Nov-Dec-2018 - 70.13% Nov-Dec-2019 - 43.47% 2. Engineering Mathematics-II April-May-2018 - 44.4% April-May-2019 - 68.25% 3. Applied Science Nov-Dec-2018 - 75.17% April-May- 2019 - 71.43% Nov-Dec-2019 - 60.4%

Discussions /Suggestions: Dr. C. Ranganathaiah, suggested to make a comparative statement of the results in science and mathematics, of all the polytechnics coming under JSSMVP. For this Dr. A.T. Bhashyam, expressed that the comparative statement of results between aided and non aided polytechnics cannot be justified as the quality of students selected on merit basis in aided polytechnics is in no comparison to those admitted to private polytechnics under JSSMVP. Sri.T.Harish , expressed that the results of science and mathematics is far better than the board results , for which Sri. Ravichandran.N also agreed. For this Prof. M.H. Dhananjaya and Dr. C.G. Betsurmath, gave their consent. However, they sought to know the necessary steps taken and efforts put forth to improve the results. At this point Sri. G Ramalingana Gowd, said that all possible efforts were sincerely made, inspite of which the results decreased compared to previous year. Further, he said that the results of Science and Mathematics of JSSP, is almost same as that of our Polytechnic. Resolution of 9th GC meeting: It was resolved to continue sincere efforts to improve results. ii) Establishing Language Lab Resolution of 8th GC Meeting : To continue the same with regard to the language lab and try to improve results. Action Taken: Existing lab adjacent to Library with 25 computers, is being used to provide training in English Communication by our staff, using audio visual aid and CDs. In addition, lessons in respect of soft skills and English grammar were also taught. The results of Communication Skills in English is as follows: April/May 2019 - 81.25 % (Even Semester) Nov./Dec. 2019 - 70.4 % (Odd Semester) Discussions /Suggestions: Members noted the results and suggested to improve results further.

Resolution of 9th GC meeting: To continue the same with regard to the language lab and try to improve results.

9.3(8.3b) : Formation of Staff Evaluation Committee Resolution of 8th GC Meeting: To continue the staff evaluation process under the guidance of Prof A.T. Bhashyam

3 Action Taken:

Prof. A.T. Bhashyam, reviewed the results and addressed the staff. He also gave valuable advice to the staff as to how to improve results in those subjects which has less than 50% results. Also during last year there were only 2 subjects in which the results were 100%. Discussions /Suggestions: Prof. A.T. Bhashyam, expressed that he had visited the polytechnic recently and went through the results in various subjects and found satisfactory. However he also stated that he has advised the concerned staff in those subjects which has less than 50% results as to how to improve the same. Resolution of 9th GC Meeting: To continue the staff evaluation process under the guidance of Prof A.T. Bhashyam.

9.3(8.3c): Placement Discussion:

Resolution of 8th GC Meeting: It is resolved to continue with the placement Activities Action taken: The placement activities were continued with Sri K.S.Bhakthavatsala -Lecturer/placement officer, as chief coordinator. Number of Students Passed- 150 Number of students Perusing Higher Education-88 Number of Students Employed – 02

Number of Students Self Employed – Nil

4 Discussions /Suggestions: Members noted the details. Dr. C.G. Betsurmath, instructed to let him know within a week‟s time, about the remaining 60 students, as to what they are doing presently, who are neither pursuing higher studies nor employed, as per the above details. Prof. M.H. Dhananjaya, suggested to call those students and try to counsel atleast some of them and introduce them to STEP in our campus, so that they can start their career as entrepreneurs. Resolution of 9th GC Meeting: To continue the placement acclivities and to comply with the suggestions made by the honorary members.

9.3(8.3d): IMS & Skill Development Activities : Resolution of 8th GC Meeting: It is resolved to pursue courses under CMKKY & to get approval. Action Taken: Two courses namely, Construction Painter & Decorator, and Helper- Mason were registered with Koushal Mission, under CMKKY. However, entire status of approval is pending. Discussions /Suggestions: Prof. M.H. Dhananjaya, suggested Principal to personally go to the Koushal Karnataka Mission, and try to enroll for advanced courses instead of restricting to painter and decorator courses. For which principal agreed. However, Sri. Ravichandran.N, expressed that the skill development mission has stopped all the courses, for the time being, due to some policy issues. Resolution of 9th GC meeting: It is resolved to implement above suggestions.

9.3(8.4) Progress of the Polytechnic

9.3(8.4.1) Additional Building and Procurement of Loan: Resolution of 8th GC Meeting : It was resolved to expedite the process of building construction with the necessary support from JSSMVP. Action Taken: Response from the concerned banks is pending. Discussions /Suggestions: Prof. M.H. Dhananjaya, expressed that the loan repaying capacity is low for the institution, and hence it has to be stalled temporarily. However, alternative fund raising possibilities, if any, may be looked into. For this, Dr. C. Ranganathaiah also agreed. Resolution of 9th GC Meeting: It was resolved to implement suggestions as above.

9.3(8.4.2): Procurement of Machinery / Equipment

Resolution of 8th GC Meeting: It is resolved to commission the UTM procured from JSSATE , Bengaluru. Action Taken: The UTM procured from JSSATE, Bengaluru, was commissioned successfully. In addition, training of personnel in operation and conduction of experiments on the machine was imparted. Presently classes are being conducted for students regularly. Resolution of 9th GC Meeting: Continue with the operation of the machine for lab purposes.

5 9.3(8.4.3): Poor Result & Poor Performing Students:

Resolution of 8th GC Meeting: It is resolved to continue with the process of improving results.

Action Taken : In continuation from last year, the unit tests and remedial classes were organized even this year.

The results in some of the subject are as follows: Applied Science I Semester – 60.4% Engineering Mathematics I Semester -43.47% Communication Skills in English I Semester -70.4% Strength of Materials (Mech.) III Semester – 69.23 %

Discussions /Suggestions: Dr. C.G. Betsurmath, suggested to maintain mentor system and allocate 20 students to each lecturer and instruct them to take suitable steps to improve results. Prof. M.H. Dhananjaya, suggested to display the results, range wise so that it will be effective in analyzing the details and draw conclusions. Further this also helps in chalking out possibilities in improving results. Prof. Ranganathaiah C, also suggested to display combined three years bar charts of the results for effective analysis. Resolution of 9th GC Meeting: It was resolved to implement the suggestions made.

9.3(8.4.4): Alumni Association: Resolution of 8th GC Meeting: It is resolved to continue registering new students from time to time. Action Taken:

228 students have registered during this academic year. i.e., 2019-20.

Discussions /Suggestions: Dr. C.G. Betsurmath and Prof. Ranganathaiah C, suggested to arrange technical talks by the alumni members on regular basis. Further, they suggested to maintain a database of alumni members with all essential details and also to strengthen the association by involving members effectively. Resolution of 9th GC Meeting: It is resolved to continue registering new students from time to time and implement the feasible suggestions made by the members. 9.3(8.4.5): Guest Lectures and Staff Training: Resolution of 8th GC Meeting: It is resolved to conduct lectures on motivation for students. Action Taken: Till date 09 lectures on technical subjects has been conducted.

Discussions /Suggestions: Members noted and suggested to increase the number of lectures during the next academic year.

Discussions /Suggestions: Members noted. Resolution of 9th GC Meeting: It was resolved to implement the suggestion made by members. In addition, more number of students should be motivated to make use of available e-library facility.

Discussions /Suggestions: The discussions made under “ 9.3(8.4.3) Poor Result & Poor Performing Students”, were repeated for consideration. Resolution of 9th GC Meeting: The committee noted the results of the polytechnic and suggested to further improve the results (Page No.11 to 13)

9.5 Extracurricular activities: Noted

9.5.1 NSS activities: The committee noted the details of the various activities taken up during the academic Year 2019-20 (Page No. 14).

9.5.3 Alumni Association: The committee noted the enrolling process. To follow the procedure cited in the agenda 9.3(8.4.4) of review of action taken(Page No. 15) 7 9.6 Staff Development Programme:

9.6.1 Staff enrolled for higher education Prof. Ranganathaiah C, expressed satisfaction that 50% of staff are PG holders. (Page No. 16)

9.6.2 Staff Development programmes attended: Prof. Ranganathaiah C, noted and appreciated the staff pursuing on- line courses, and suggested to enroll more number of staff for on-line courses during the next academic year. (Page No.17 to 18)

9.6.3 Programmes/workshop/Seminars organized in the year 2019-20: Members noted (Page No. 19)

9.6.4 Industrial visits organized: Members noted (Page No.20 ) 9.7 Student activities: Members noted the achievements of students in general and the achievements of the distinguished student Sri. Adarsh. B. Koneri, IV Sem, CS student, in particular. Prof. M.H. Dhananjaya, appreciated Mr. Koneri on his capabilities, and offered him to help in case he wants to start any project at their Excel Soft company. Dr. C.G. Betsurmath, appreciated and even took a photograph with him. (Page No.21)

9.8 Income generating activities: The committee noted the previous activities and suggested to explore online courses, to generate income. Prof. M.H. Dhananjaya also insisted to approach Dr. B. Suresh, Vice-chancellor, JSS Academy of Higher Education & Research, for his valuable guidance in this regard. (Page No.22)

9.9 Investment on Laboratories: The committee noted the investment made during the academic year 2019-20 ( Page No.22)

9.10 Library: Dr. C.G. Betsurmath , enquired about the availability of space in library, for students to study. For this Principal, replied that a separate space is not available.

However, students are made to sit and study in the space available in the corridor by arranging sufficient desks.

9.11 Placement Activities: The committee noted the placement activities (Page No. 23) 9.12 Finance: 9.12.1 Audit Report of 2019-20: The committee noted the Report.

Mrs. Asha Kulkarni, NBA Coordinator, explained the activities taken up to the members. Sri. Ravichandran.N, suggested to consider average of three years for setting

targets and not to set higher targets, as it becomes difficult to achieve.

AGENDA for 9.5: EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

ACTIVITIES DETAILS 9.5.1 NSS  NSS Unit was established in the year 2001-2002  Students are actively participating in regular activities held in the polytechnic campus on every Saturday.  Enrolment of 100 students to our NSS Unit was held on 25th July 2019  On 15th August 2019 Independence day was celebrated.  NSS Activity for the year 2019-20-Inaugural program was conducted on 05.09.2019 at Seminar Hall  On 5th September – “Sadbhavana” pledge was administrated by Smt. 9.5.3 Alumini  As per auditors‟ suggestion, a separate account was opened Association in the name of JSS Polytechnic Alumni Association and Rs. 1,59,799 credited to the same.

 654 students have been registered during last three years. (2017-18, 2018-19, 2019-20)  Alumni meet was held in the 1st week of February 2020 and the response was good compare to previous years.  There were good suggestions made by the Alumni  Some of the Alumni members have taken the responsibility of making sure that they attend next Alumni meet during April/May 2020 in large numbers.

 Seven students of 6th semester Civil Engineering department have attended “ Importance of RC Detailing in Construction” held at C-TEA(Corporate Technology and Engineering Academy), Mysuru on 27th & 28th Jan. 2020. Sri Chirag Rampure of 6th semester Civil Engineering department has  participated in International Level Karate Championship-20K (below 18 years) at Shivamogga on 24th & 25th August – 2019 Sri Yashraj Mishra, IV Sem Mech. Engg. Student participated in Kick boxing  at, Nasik, Maharashtra, under the aegis of Kick Boxing Federation of , on 28-12-2019, and won Silver Medal. Sri Adarsh B Koneri- IV Sem CS student, won 3rd place in state level  Badminton conducted by Karnataka badminton Association in Bengaluru, in June 2019.  60KW Capacity Roop Top Solar Power Generation System(SRTP): The solar power generation system installed in the college building can generate about 9000kw per month @ the rate of 250 to 300kw per day.
