General Characteristics of the District Bilaspur district is famous for its unique characteristics like rice quality, Kosa industry and its cultural background. Bilaspur district has a major contribution in the naming “dhan ka katora” for the entire Chhattisgarh region. 1.1 Location & Geographical Area. Bilaspur district is situated between 21’47 and 23’8 North latitudes and 81’14 and 83’15 East Longitudes. The district is bounded by Korea on the North, Anuppur and Dindori districts of Madhyapradesh on the west, Kawardha on the southwest and Durg and Raipur on the South and Korba and Janjgir-Champa on the East. 1.2 Topography Topographically Bilaspur District falls under the “Plains of Chhattisgarh”. The climate of Bilaspur district is sub-tropical, semi-arid, continental and mansoon type. The climate is ideal for industrial development. 1.3 Availability of Minerals. The British province encompassed the central portion of the state, and was made up of three districts, Raipur, Bilaspur, and Durg, which made up the Chhattisgarh Division of the Central Provinces. Durg District was created in 1906 out of the eastern portion of Raipur District.
