So despite these conditions and knowing no other freight would be unloaded that day, a small crew of lighterage and stevedores transported the bulls to shore without a single hiccup. Once ashore the bulls were transported via cattle trailer to James’ corral, where they underwent a full Veterinary inspection. Both bulls had arrived in excellent condition. The bulls are now grazing happily out on James’ property whilst they undergo their 21 day quarantine requirements here on island. After that both Aaron and James hope the bulls will soon get “down to business”! Tony, being a Veterinarian, organised much of the pre-export blood tests and had the two bulls quarantined on his property since mid-October. During this time he also began the training and conditioning of the bulls. Just prior to the bull’s loading, Aaron flew to Napier to help assist with preparing the bulls to travel on the ship and help with their transport to the port – a 6 hour ‘horse float’ journey to the Auckland port where they would be loaded., Aaron was fortunate enough to be able to have some fun spraying fertiliser via helicopter, watch the AI of some of the Glenanthony stud cows, and all the while being fed delicious home-cooked meals made by Tony. Once in Auckland the bulls were transferred to the shipping crates which would be their home for the next couple of days, these crates were then loaded onto the ship. Good weather between Norfolk and NZ enabled the ship to arrive quickly into Norfolk, arriving late Introducing Sunday night. DO YOU HAVE A CURRENT AUSTRALIAN PASSPORT?

HAS IT EXPIRED?

DO YOU KNOW WHEN IT IS DUE TO EXPIRE?

Residents needing to apply for an Australian Passport or Document of Identity are asked to first telephone the Office of the Administrator on phone 22152 to make an appointment to lodge or discuss their passport application.

The Office of the Administrator has recently received requests for urgent assistance from anxious residents who are about to travel from Norfolk Island, but who had just discovered their travel document had expired, was about to expire, or did not have a current travel document. Not having a valid Passport or Document of Identity can prevent you from travelling.

The above is also relevant to those families that have had to travel off Island for the birth of a child.

It can take between 10 and 15 working days for a new Australian Passport to be issued.

For this reason, we recommend that residents ensure that they hold a current Australian Passport or Document of Identity at all times and these are up to date well before any planned travel offIsland.

We wish to advise that the Office of the Administrator will be closed from midday Tuesday 23rd December and reopening on Monday 5th January 2015. of bridge (and non-bridge) players. Good news is that plans are already underway for another Seriously Social Bridge holiday to Norfolk next year! Our photo shows the group at The Paradise Hotel & Resort THANKSGIVING If you were in Sydney, Auckland or any other big city, a trip to the shops at the moment would be an instant reminder that Christmas is around the corner, and that you should start buying! For many, Christmas is a time of spending, of giving, and the whole reason for Christmas is often totally lost sight of. The Christ child of Christmas is sometimes completely missing. This is similarly the case with Thanksgiving. The Puritans, seeking freedom in the New World, arrived in America in the Mayflower at the worst possible time of year. Their unpreparedness for the harsh winter conditions caused a large number of deaths, and it was their survival of this first winter and the successful harvest during the following months, that brought about the first Thanksgiving feast. It was a celebration of thanks to God for survival and the blessings of the preceding year, and especially for the harvest. As with Christmas, God should be at the centre of Thanks-giving. The Bible says in Deuteronomy 8:18, “... remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth ...” and in 1 Timothy 6: 17 it says that it is “... God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy”. The idea is therefore to acknowledge our dependence on God and to thank Him for His love and care for all of us, His children, for life, health and happiness. The incorporation of Thanksgiving into Norfolk Island culture is just another indication of the central place that God had in the minds of the earlier generations. Of course the atheists among us at present don’t believe that God exists at all, and the agnostics probably don’t agree that God sends any good things their way. But Jesus declared in Matthew 5: 45 that “... your Father in heaven ... makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust”. Whatever our beliefs about God, He loves each one of us, and gives to each His bountiful blessings, for which we can all thank Him. Whatever your thoughts about God may be, or the lack of thoughts for that matter, why don’t you join in one of the Thanksgiving services on the island on Wednesday, 26th November? God loves you, no matter who you are, what you’ve done or what you think about Him. He would love it if you were there, and so would those who are putting on the Thanksgiving service. Give thanks to God, for He is good! For those who aren’t aware, Willies is the team that used to be Kiss My Art, just with a new sponsor. The change in sponsorship happened this year. At one stage they were looking at a joint sponsorship between Kiss My Art and Willies, but we didn’t think a team name of “Kiss my Willies” would be appropriate. Teddy’s team continues to be sponsored by Pete’s Place because Teddy knows how to look after his sponsor... It was a good game with the score not reflecting the contest. In the end, Willies were too strong for Pete’s winning 8-2. Playing well for the boys were Kya Snell and Amossi. Getting a mention for the girls were Em and Alesi.
