Yonow. Abstract. This is the final report describing the heterobranch molluscs collected by the Rumphius Bio historical Expedition to Ambon during November and December 1990. This part deals with the non‑nudibranch higher clades (Cephalaspidea, Anaspidea, Sacoglossa, and Pleurobranchida). Forty‑one species belonging to 21 genera are identified from Ambon and nearby localities in the central Indonesian archipelago; 2 species are new to science, and 3 species are new records for Indonesia. The new species Haminoea edmundsi is described from the mangroves near Paso in Ambon Bay, and the new species Mourgona anisti is described from Latuhalat, also Ambon. A discussion and table of all named species of Plakobranchus are provided, and the original descriptions and museum specimens from other localities are compared in an effort to clarify some of the problems surrounding these species. Chelidonura sandrana Rudman, 1973 and C. babai Gosliner, 1988 are synonymised with C. tsurugensis Baba & Abe, 1959. Recent corrections of names and/or dates of publication are highlighted: Phanerophthalmus olivaceus (Ehrenberg, 1828), Aplysia argus Rüppell & Leuckart, 1830, Dolabella auricularia ([Lightfoot], 1786), Elysia faustula Bergh, 1871, Cyerce elegans Bergh, 1870, Euselenops luniceps (Cuvier, 1816), and Pleurobranchus peronii Cuvier, 1804. -

Several authors have studied the marine Heterobranchia (Mollusca, Gastropoda) fauna composition living in the Ionian Sea, but to date further knowledge regarding this interesting group of mollusks is still needed. Recent studies have corroborated the peculiarity of the Mediterranean Sea showing high levels of endemism and cryptic diversity. On the other hand, marine sea slugs have been revealed to be important indicators of the marine ecosystem’s health, due to their species-specific diet that consist of a vast variety of sessile and benthic invertebrates. A baseline study of the marine Heterobranchia diversity is therefore a necessary step to reveal the hidden diversity and to monitor the possible presence of alien species. The present study shows results from approximately 600 scientific dives carried out during a nine-year period in all of the main submarine habitats of the studied area, while accounting for the marine Heterobranchia from both the Ionian and Adriatic Seas. -

NiMbs1,2 aNd stepheN d.a. sMith1,2 1national Marine science centre, southern cross university, bay drive, coffs harbour nsw 2456, Australia 2Marine ecology research centre, southern cross university, lismore nsw 2480, Australia correspondence: Matt nimbs, [email protected] ABSTRACT: Although the indo-pacific is the global centre of diversity for the heterobranch sea slugs, their distribution remains, in many places, largely unknown. on the Australian east coast, their diversity decreases from approximately 1000 species in the northern great barrier reef to fewer than 400 in bass strait. while occurrence records for some of the more populated sections of the coast are well known, data are patchy for more remote areas. Many species have very short life- cycles, so they can respond rapidly to changes in environmental conditions. the new south wales coast is a recognised climate change hot-spot and southward shifts in distribution have already been documented for several species. however, thorough documentation of present distributions is an essential prerequisite for identifying further range extensions. while distribution data are available in the public realm, much is also held privately as photographic collections, diaries and logs. this paper consolidates the current occurrence data from both private and public sources as part of a broader study of sea slug distribution in south-eastern Australia and provides an inventory by region. A total of 382 species, 155 genera and 54 families is reported from the mainland coast of new south wales. -

Email: [email protected] Dear Ladies and Gentlemen, Jørgen Hylleberg was born on October 28, 1935. After school he completed his education as teacher at the training college in Ranum, Denmark. Despite outstanding pedagogic talents, he did have such a burning interest for biology that he started to study biology at University of Aarhus and completed the studies with a M.Sc. degree from University of Copenhagen. The research area of the thesis was marine biology and the famous Professor Gunnar Thorson was his supervisor. One year of the M.Sc. studies was spent at Kristineberg Marine Biological Station in Sweden, a field station he often returned to during the following years. In 1970 Jørgen Hylleberg was invited to University of Aarhus by Professor Tom years at the Phuket Marine Biological Center in Fenchel in order to participate in the work of Thailand. His research and teaching has since this building up marine biology in Jutland, and he was period been very much centred on Thailand and employed as Associate Professor in 1972. He has other parts of Southeast Asia. During the period been teaching and writing several text books in 1983–94 he was engaged by DANIDA and marine biology since this date. Jørgen Hylleberg stationed in Thailand for 3 months per year. -
