In this work, it is given a comparative analysis of the species belonging to the Orthoptera order (Insecta) from the Republic of Moldova with other regions and countries of the Palaearctic region like: Romania, Ukraine, Slovenia, Czech Republic, Slovak Republic, Bulgaria, Catalonia (Spain), Switzerland, Turkey, Baikal Regions (Russia), and S-W Tajikistan. The highest percentage of similarity between the Orthoptera fauna of the Republic of Moldava and the surrounding countries, proved to be with the Orthoptera fauna from Ukraine and Romania. Keywords: comparative analysis, Orthoptera, Palaearctic, similarity. Rezumat. Analiza comparativ a ortopterelor (Insecta) din Republica Moldova i unele regiuni din Palearctica. În lucrare este prezentat analiza comparativ a faunei insectelor ordinului Orthoptera (Insecta) din Republica Moldova cu cea a unor regiuni sau ;ri din regiunea Palearctic: România, Ucraina, Slovenia, Cehia, Slovacia, Bulgaria, Catalonia (Spania), Elveia, Turcia, Regiunea Baical (Russia) i S-V Tadjikistan. Cel mai înalt procent de similaritate privind fauna ortopterelor Republicii Moldova cu rile i regiunile cercetate, s-a dovedit a fi cu fauna ortopterelor din Ucraina i România. Cuvinte cheie: analiza comparativ, Orthoptera, Palearctica, similaritate. INTRODUCTION The Republic of Moldova is situated in the southeastern part of Europe, at the junction of the great geobotanical regions: Euro-Asiatic, European, and Mediterranean (GHEIDEMAN, 1986). The whole surface of the country is 33,700 km2. In accordance with the territorial surface, the republic of Moldova is one of the smallest countries of Europe. -

Sanchiz (*) RESUMEN Durante el periodo 1978-1994 se han descrito cerca de 2.000 especies animales nue- vas para la ciencia en territorio ibérico-balear. Se presenta como apéndice un listado completo de las especies (1978-1993), ordenadas taxonómicamente, así como de sus referencias bibliográficas. Como tendencias generales en este proceso de inventario de la biodiversidad se aprecia un incremento moderado y sostenido en el número de taxones descritos, junto a una cada vez mayor contribución de los autores españoles. Es cada vez mayor el número de especies publicadas en revistas que aparecen en el Science Citation Index, así como el uso del idioma inglés. La mayoría de los phyla, clases u órdenes mues- tran gran variación en la cantidad de especies descritas cada año, dado el pequeño núme- ro absoluto de publicaciones. Los insectos son claramente el colectivo más estudiado, pero se aprecia una disminución en su importancia relativa, asociada al incremento de estudios en grupos poco conocidos como los nematodos. ABSTRACT Description of new animal species from the Iberian Peninsula and Balearic Islands (1978-1994): Taxonomic trends and systematic list During the period 1978-1994 about 2.000 new animal species have been described in the Iberian Peninsula and the Balearic Islands. ABSTRACT This paper is a part of an extensive study regarding the taxonomy and ecology of Orthoptera fauna in Rodna Mountains National Park/Eastern Carpathians, drawing the final conclusions of our investigations. In the period 2004-2008, 52 Orthoptera species were identified; the majority of them are: chortobiont life forms (44.23%), eurosiberian elements (36.53%), occurring under 1,800 m altitude and prefer mezophilous meadows (48.07%). A high number of Carpathians endemic species are present: Isophya brevipennis, Isophya pienensis, Miramella ebneri carpathica, Odontopodisma carpathica and Pholidoptera transsylvanica. RĖSUM Ė: La faune d’orthoptères du Parc National des Montagnes de Rodna (Transylvanie-Maramure ş, Roumanie). L’article ci-dessous est partie d’une ample étude concernant la taxonomie et l’écologie de la faune des orthoptères du Parc National des Montagnes de Rodna/Carpates Orientaux, et en tire les conclusions des nos recherches. Durant la période 2004-2008, 52 espèces d’orthoptères ont été identifiées la plupart d’entre elles étant des formes de vie chortobiontes (44,23%), des éléments sibériens (36,53%), répandues à moins de 1.800 m d’altitude et préférant des prairies mésophiles (48,07%). Here, we employ modern phylogenetic comparative 18 methods on 8 subfamilies of Iberian grasshoppers (85 species) to examine the validity of 19 different models of evolution of body size and SSD and explore how they are shaped by a suite 20 of ecological variables (habitat specialization, substrate use, altitude) and/or constrained by 21 different evolutionary pressures (female fecundity, strength of sexual selection, length of the 22 breeding season). -

In some grasshopper species, their evolution has led to many B chromosome morphotypes. We studied the Bs in nine species (Nocaracris tardus, Nocaracris cyanipes, Aeropus sibiricus, Chorthippus jacobsoni, Chorthippus apricarius, Bryodema gebleri, Asiotmethis heptapotamicus songoricus, Podisma sapporensis, and Eyprepocnemis plorans), analyzing their possible origin and further development. The studied Bs consisted of C-positive or C-positive and C-negative regions. Analyzing new data and considering current hypotheses, we suggest that Bs in grasshoppers could arise through different mechanisms and from different chromosomes of the main set. We gave our special attention to the Bs with C-negative regions and suggest a new hypothesis of B chromosome formation from large or medium autosomes. -

A diferencia de otros países, con floras y faunas compuestas por muy pocas especies, nuestra naturaleza se caracteriza por su elevada diversidad y disfrutamos de un entorno formado por formas de vida muy variadas, adaptadas a condiciones bien diferentes. Nuestra sociedad, a través de universidades, institutos, administraciones, especialistas y naturalistas, ha hecho un gran esfuerzo en ir diagnosticando estas especies. Pero mucho de este conocimiento queda en revistas y libros, de acceso restringido, o dispersas en un gran número de publicaciones. La mayoría de las veces, se concentran en zonas concretas del territorio y, a menudo, hasta las especies no han sido descubiertas aún. Necesitamos las herramientas que faciliten la conservación y gestión de estas especies. ¿Cuáles son? ¿Dónde están? ¿Cuántos individuos hay? ¿En qué hábitats? ¿Cuáles son sus requerimientos?. Estas son preguntas cabales para llevar a cabo una planificación correcta del territorio, de los espacios naturales, de las actividades humanas en general. Figures and maps refer to those included in the catalan version. 338 PRESENTATION Catalonia is a country that is strategically located from a biogeographical point of view, a stone's throw from Mid-European and Mediterranean environments, washed by the Mediterranean, and going from a high mountain alpine environment to sub-desert steppes. In contrast to other countries, with flora and fauna composed of very few species, our nature is characterised by its great diversity and we enjoy an environment composed of very varied forms of life, adapted to quite different conditions. Our society, through its universities, institutes, administrations, specialists and nature lovers, has made a great effort to identify these species. However, a great deal of this knowledge is found in journals or books with a limited readership or dispersed in a great number of publications. They mostly concentrate on specific areas of the territory and often, the species have yet to be discovered. We need tools to facilitate the conservation and management of these species. Which are they? Where are they? How many individual members of the species are there? In which habitats? What are their needs? These are questions which are key to be able to offer the correct planning of the territory, of the natural areas and of human activities in general. For each species we include details of valid names, syn- onyms, type specimens (type category, sex, locality and depository), geographic distribution and bibliographic references. Clarifying notes are added, as well as comments on the species considered doubtful. A total of 140 species included in 62 genera, 31 subfamilies and 12 families make up the known Cuban fauna of Orthoptera. The family Episactidae, the acridid subfamily Ommatolampidinae with 3 unknown genera, 3 unknown genera of Tettigoniidae (Conocephalinae) and 1 unde- scribed new genus of Tetrigidae (Cladonotinae) are here recorded for the first time from Cuba. Syntypes are designated for Hygronemobius histrionicus Zayas. Gotovo svi aspekti njihova života ovisni su o temperaturi, uključujući i prijelaz iz solitarne u gregarigenu životnu fazu. Međutim, dostupna istraživanja o utjecaju temperature na njihov životni ciklus su oskudna i nepotpuna. U Ustanovi Zoološki vrt grada Zagreba provedeno je istraživanje o utjecaju različitih temperatura na trajanje inkubacije jaja, trajanje stadija između presvlačenja i mortalitet jedinki. Skakavci su uzgajani unutar ustanove, u četiri terarija s različitim temperaturnim uvjetima – maksimalna temperatura 20 ± 2°C, 25 ± 2°C, 30 ± 2°C i 35 ± 2°C. -

SINGH Zoological Survey of India, FPS Building, Kolkata-700 016 INTRODUCTION The grasshopper species Chorthippus indus Uvarov, has been investigated for the first time. Subfamily Gomphocerinae is an assemblage of large number of genera. Chorthippus comprises of six sub-genera of which sub-genus Chorthippus is an enonnous one with not less than 65 species EJago 1971). So far 23 species under this genus are known chromosomally, each having 2n 0" = 17 (XO), instead of 23 acrocentrics. Their three meta/submetacentric pairs had originated by Robertsonian fusions. Several species under different genera have also been reported for their Robertsonian fusions. Had these species obtained their three fusions independently? or they fonn a natural phylogenetic group pleading their origin monophyletic (i.e., fusions truly homologous). The findings on the submetacentric chromosomes of C. indus carries unique phylogenetic significance. This species had obtained its fusions independently, so can not be placed with so called natural phylogenetic group. The present investigations also include morphometric analysis of the published karyotype of several species which support polyphyletism in the Gomphocerinae. MATERIAL AND METHODS Six males collected from Saproon and Renuka lake in Himachal Pradesh were injected with 0.03 to 0.04 ml of 0.05% colchicine prior to dissection to arrest metaphases. After 4-6 hours of injection, the testes and hepatic caecae were dissected-out and cleaned in 0.67% solution of insect saline. The tissues were then transferred for a hypotonic treatment in a solution of 0.9% sodium citrate for 45-60 minutes then were fixed for a minimum of 40 minutes.
