III Reclassifying Member) David Doino was named the Averett men’s basketball ^Defending Division Champion head coach in August 2014 after serving as an assistant coach at North Carolina Wesleyan College since 2007. Doino became the ninth coach of the men’s basket- ball program since it began NCAA play in 1976. He took over a program that has a history of success, including four NCAA Tournament appearances and five conference championships. During his seven seasons as an assis- tant at fellow USA South Conference foe N.C. Wesleyan, Doino helped guide the Battling Bishops to a 106-79 re- cord with one NCAA Tournament appearance, one USA South Conference Tournament championship and two conference regular season titles. He also helped coach two USA South Players of the Year and two National Basketball Coaches Association All-Americans. At N.C. Wesleyan, Doino was responsible for recruiting, scouting, directing strength and conditioning and monitoring the academic progress of men’s basketball team. Prior to working at N.C. Wesleyan, Doino was an as- sistant coach at Virginia Wesleyan from 2005 through 2007, where he helped coach the Marlins to the 2006 NCAA Division III national championship. A year later, he helped Virginia Wesleyan return to the championship game, where the Marlins finished as the 2007 national runner-up. Doino also served as a student-assistant at Virginia Wesleyan during the 2004-2005 season. Averett University men’s basketball head coach David Doino believes his team has plenty of potential heading into the 2018- 19 season. If the Cougars can grow and get better each day, the sky is the limit. The Cougars kick off their season at home against non-conference foe Eastern Mennonite University on Thursday, Nov. 8, at 7 p.m.

FIVE KEYS TO THE 2018-19 SEASON

ADAPTING EARLY Fifth-year Averett head coach David Doino has installed new offen- sive and defensive philosophies this season, so adapting early in EFFORT & PASSION game situations will be crucial to the Cougars’ success.
