Domestic Animal Regulations in Effect as of April 1

In order to provide a safe environment for visitors and to protect wildlife and their habitats, domestic animals – including dogs, cats, and horses – are not permitted on the beaches of PEI National Park from April 1 to October 15, 2021. The presence of domestic animals on beaches can disrupt wildlife, such as young animals and birds, including the breeding activity of the endangered Piping Plover, which nest on the ground. Anyone caught breaking this law will be subject to a minimum fine of $100. Dogs are permitted in all other outdoor areas of the park, and visitors are reminded that all pets must be on a leash (maximum length 3 metres) at all times and owners are required to clean up after their pet. Keeping each other safe

Parks Canada is following the advice and guidance of public health experts and continues to make every effort to limit the spread of COVID-19. Parks Canada continues to ask visitors to practice good trail etiquette and respect two-meter physical distancing as well as enhanced hygiene requirements when they visit places administered by Parks Canada on PEI. Visitors should be prepared to be self-sufficient when they visit, bring their own water and food, and pack extra hygiene supplies such as hand sanitizer and wipes. Visitors should also pack out any refuse from locations where no waste receptacles are available.

Park Wardens remain on duty seven days per week throughout the year. Visitors must note that during the off-season, only limited emergency service is provided by Parks Canada. In case of an emergency in the national park, call 911. Visitors who wish to report a non-emergency issue (e.g., facility damage, wildlife concern, law enforcement issue) can call Parks Canada Dispatch at 1-877-852-3100.

Please visit pc.gc.ca/pei and @PEInationalpark on Facebook to find out what is open, what you can expect, and how to prepare for your visit. If you have comments or inquiries, you may contact A/External Relations Manager Jennifer Stewart at [email protected].

Work and Study Hub at The Community Center

What are the Work and Study Hubs? 1. This pilot program will offer locations where individuals can bring their personal devices and connect to a “free for acceptable use” wireless connection. The Work and Study Hubs strive to provide a reliable connection for as many as six individuals at a time. Why are we creating this pilot? The Province is actively working with vendors to expand broadband internet across the Island. This work will better serve Islanders in the future, however, there is a current need. This program recognizes the importance of internet connectivity specifically where COVID-19 has changed the way many Islanders work and learn. This pilot hopes to help in addressing this need. What does this mean for Islanders? 1. Islanders, in participating areas who may have limited options for High Speed internet, may choose to visit a “Work and Study Hub” to help fulfill online needs. This pilot provides a closer-to-home Wi-Fi connection in areas with lower coverage. Are there any COVID restrictions? Physical distancing is required, and a limited number of patrons are permitted at one time. Please follow COVID-19 guidelines for distancing, hand sanitizing, and mask use as posted. Where can I find more information? For further information on this pilot, please contact myinternet(link sends e-mail)@gov.pe.ca(link sends e-mail) or 902-620-3974

“It is spring again. The earth is like a child that knows poems by heart.” ~ Rainer Maria Rilke

St. Peter’s Fire Department

Training schedule for April 2021:

April 05 - Easter Monday April 12 - Boat and Water Rescue April 19 - Wildland Fires April 26 - Meeting

Department News: · Please stay tuned for updates on our Mothers Day Lobster Supper!

· Reminder The company that printed our Birthday Calendar has gone out of business so we will no longer have the Birthday Calendar fundraiser. Thank You for your support over the years.

· The St. Peters Fire Department is looking to recruit new members. We offer many benefits including free, mandatory training in Medical First Responder and NFPA Level 1 Fire Fighting. If you think you may be interested in joining or have some questions, please contact Chief Craig Campbell (evenings) at 902-393-2870.

· Burning Permits are required for any open fire from March 15th to November 30th. You can get your Burn permit at the Forest, Fish and Wildlife office in Southampton. When you get your permit, please read and abide by the conditions found on the permit.

This month`s Safety tips: · Mid April marks the start of the trout fishing season. Whether you fish from the shore or from a boat be very careful. The water is still very cold and falling in could be very dangerous or even fatal. If you go fishing alone, make sure someone knows where you are in case you do have an accident.

· Now that Spring has arrived, check your Civic Address sign and make sure it is in good repair. Actually do a drive by to ensure the sign is easily seen from the road, so First Responders will be able to find your address any time of the day or night.

· Spring cleaning time is here, homeowners are cleaning up the debris that has been accumulating in basements, storage sheds and garages over the winter. Household and outdoor chemicals, paints and poisons should be properly marked and stored under lock and key, away from children's reach. Properly dispose of any that are leaking, expired or no longer used. Go and see Joe or Wanda at the IWMC depot in Dingwells Mills and they will help.

The Jack Pots are growing!

https://rafflebox.ca/raffle/peifirefighters or find the link on our Facebook page. When purchasing tickets, please select to support the St.Peters Fire Dept when you are purchasing your tickets, as some of the money they raise will be directed to us!
