6 The trip takes us along the coast through the famous summer resorts along the Makarska Riviera to the fertile Neretva River Delta. Driving towards ’s inland we reach Počitelj, a mysterious town with the old Ottoman- era fortress. After a short break, we continue along the Neretva River valley to Mostar, ‘the window to the Orient’, and an important trade centre during the Ottoman rule. A guide will take us around the oriental part of the town, with the Old Bazaar full of lively shops and workshops. We will also visit the mosque and a typical Turkish house and walk across the legendary Ottoman Bridge from the 16th century that the city was named after. 24 Join us for an exciting trip to the past times. After driving through the Dalmatian inland we arrive at the town of Klis, famous for its fortress. It is a unique example of fortification architecture, and is now almost a synonym for Croatian resistance at the time of Turkish infiltration. This stunning fortress was also used in filming of the world famous “The Game of the Thrones”, where it used as the City walls of Meereen. From it, an amazing view spreads out on all of the surrounding regions and all the way to the distant island , a sight not to be missed! Our next destination is Sinj, a small town famous for “Alka” - a knights’ tournament held here every August since 1715 to commemorate the victory over the Turks. Riders, called Alkari, are trying to hit the alka (an iron hoop) which hangs on a rope at a height of 3.2 meters. The race begins 180 m away from the hoop (alka) and the procession includes a Duke, Alkar troops, troops of young men and escorts. Upon arriving to Sinj we’ll have a short walk where we’ll visit sights like the Statue of Alkar & Alka Tournament Course. We’ll also visit modern and interactive Museum of Alka, where you’ll see life-size recreation of the Alka procession, experience the smell of gunpowder and an expert guide will share interesting stories about the Alka.
