eggie Nikander is a “mountain” woman to the very core. In 1989, prior to the now-sought-after sprawling homes sitting on even larger sprawling Pproperties, Peggie was a premier realtor at Coldwell Banker Genesee, owned by Oren Benton. Working in an era gone by, Peggie recalls, “Those were definitely the good old days when employers offered employees, includ- ing realtors, tremendous perks, and we watched our Evergreen / Conifer com- munities boom and thrive.” Armed with personality, drive, and ambition, combined with her instant PHOTOS BY GARY LOFFLER rapport with people and a passion for décor, Peggie loved finding her clients the perfect home. “I loved helping clients visualize what their space could become. On the listing side, I loved helping clients prepare their homes for market by decluttering, condensing, and creating a cohesive design with elements they already possessed, to create a welcoming ambiance for their buyers. You could say I was staging homes before staging was a thing.” Peggie also worked with builders, selecting finishing touches to new home builds. When the financial collapse hit in the mid 2000s, Peggie established one of the first liquor store / convenience stores in Colorado, now known as Ponderosa Market and Spirits on Hwy 73 in Evergreen. After a few years she sold her share of the Market when her husband’s job took them to Summit County. It was there Peggie ventured into interior design and furniture. After a year of the horrific commute back and forth from Evergreen, Peggie found a position she loved at Mountain Home, owned by Ted and Kay La Montagne. The opportunity provided her design opportunities to work with numerous homes throughout the Evergreen and the Conifer corridor. Kay and Peggie developed an incredible bond and working relationship that deepened and lasted well over a decade, especially when Ted died all too soon. Customers loved Peggie’s design style, which is a combination of rustic mountain elegance, western, mountain southwestern, mountain contempo- rary, and chalet, and her unique flair offers clients eclectic fun and a com- fortable look that availed her the opportunity to design numerous homes throughout Evergreen and the Conifer corridor. Fate recently presented Peggie an unexpected opportunity to further pursue her design passion with Colorado Consignment Furniture, which was previ- ously located in Evergreen’s King Soopers shopping center. Peggie took a leap of faith and accepted the post as general manager. Newly named Colorado Furniture and now located at Conifer Staples shopping center, the new loca- tion is no longer a consignment store and now offers 10,000 square feet of brand-new beautiful furniture, artwork, rugs, and an array of decorating. Peggie claims, “I am thrilled with the new location and learning the design wants, needs, and tastes along the 285 corridor. I’m thrilled the 285 Corridor is excited to have a “cool” furniture store in their area. It definitely was the perfect time to take this leap to offer diverse decorating styles to an array of new people who are transitioning to mountain living. Every client I serve has a unique and eclectic style in how they want to decorate their home, and I love the process of bringing their design dreams to reality.” Kyle Crandall and Nancy Berlich join Peggie to round out the design team at Colorado Furniture. They are eager to help you choose the perfect mix of texture and different mediums to suit your own unique style. Stop in and take a leisurely walk through the creative room displays, each designed to enhance the one-of-a-kind pieces, with a blend of metal, reclaimed wood, unique live We proudly carry edge wood, and textiles.
