Cornish Times The Cornwall Council Section 14(1) of the of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (RTRA 1984) (Temporary Prohibition of Through Traffic) (Various Streets Cornwall) (No.11) Order 2017 Notice is hereby given that Cornwall Council has made the above order dated the 15 th May 2017 prohibiting the use by through traffic during surface treatment works from the 22 nd May 2017 for a maximum of 18 months. It is anticipated that all roads will be closed for a maximum of 14 days within the road closure notice period; the closure may be on consecutive days or on separate days depending upon site, weather conditions and works required. Advanced Warning signs will be placed on site at least 7 days before the planned commencement of the works.     LANREATH PARISH COUNCIL Minutes of Parish Council Meeting held on 16th October 2018 Present: Mr R Pugh – Chair (County Councillor), Mr P Seaman, Mrs E Lee, Miss J Tamblyn, Mr J Williams, Miss S Cave, Mrs R Karensa, Mr D Pugh, Mr P Bartram, Mr P Meatyard, PCSO Cocks, Mrs L Rigler (Clerk) The Chair welcomed everyone to the Parish Council Meeting. 1. Apologies None. 2. Public Participation Attending members of the public were welcomed to the meeting. Police – PCSO Cocks reported that from 1st to 30th September there had been no crime within the parish. He advised that parishioners remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity. Numerous patrols have been conducted around the Parish and all was found to be in order. Shop – Mrs S Rawlins reported that the hot water has been restored. Thanks to the Parish Council for addressing this. Village Hall – Mrs S Rawlins reported that the recent car boot sale had raised £310 towards the extension. It is intended to donate £40 to the Air Ambulance. Fundraising will now stop until the New Year. Over £1000 has been raised with just two fund raising events. Potholes – Mrs Rawlins reported that, as a regular cyclist, there are shallow potholes along the B3359 where it should be safe for cyclists to ride. 3. Minutes of meeting held on 18th September 2018 Mr P Seaman proposed that the minutes be accepted. This was seconded by Miss S Cave. The Chair signed the minutes. 4. Matters Arising Maintenance work around the village / Gardening Club – it was reported that this is progressing well with regular meetings.

    SOUTH WEST Newquay Beach Newquay, facing the Atlantic Ocean on the North Cornwall Coast, is the largest resort in Cornwall. There are many different beaches to choose from including: Towan Beach, Fistral Beach, Lusty Glaze, Holywell Bay and Crantock. Any enquiries, email or ring 250629. Nature Among our birds there is a fascinating overlap between summer and winter visitors at this time of year. One day in mid October I saw a few Swallows flying over the village on their way to Africa. The following day I noticed a Black Redstart, a winter visitor to our coast. I now look forward to the possibility of a Blackcap or a tiny Firecrest in the garden or wintering thrushes in hedgerows. The Blackcaps that stay for winter are not the same birds that breed in our woodlands. The latter have moved south whereas the newcomers are a separate population that will have bred further east on the continent. A series of mild winters has enabled the Blackcaps to survive here instead of flying south and they have passed on the habit to later generations. They will stay until March when they begin to sing and become aggressive towards other birds at feeders. This takes me on to a sad situation that I noticed in September. Trichomonosis is a deadly disease that affects the digestive system of some birds and I saw the symptoms among Goldfinches. They become lethargic, cannot feed successfully and soon starve.
