Ian Sutherland was one of the first editors in Britain to pioneer the use of Non-linear editing in Drama ("Spender" was the first film series in Europe edited entirely on the Avid Non-linear editing system), and he now has over twenty years experience of editing major projects on both Avid and Lightworks, as well as over 30 years of handling both 16mm and 35mm film.

He has been a visiting lecturer to The National Film and Television School, in Beaconsfield, where he taught both Conventional and Non-linear film editing techniques and worked with 2nd year Drama Directors on all aspects of their intermediate film projects.

He was a Fellow of The Northern Media School in Sheffield, where he was a visiting lecturer and an external assessor on the M.A. Documentary and Drama courses.

He is currently a visiting lecturer on Bournemouth University Film and Television School’s M.A. course.

He has had extensive experience in editing high-end television documentary and drama and recent TV credits include, Spooks, Trial and Retribution and Above Suspicion.
