Tulane University Phyllis Taylor joins Board of Tulane

Phyllis Taylor, chair of the Patrick F. Taylor Foundation, which funds educational endeavors, military and law enforcement causes and other nonprofits such as Junior Achievement and Greater Foundation, has joined the Board of Tulane. Her three-year term begins June 21.

“Phyllis is one of Tulane"s most distinguished and dedicated alumni. Her commitment to both K-12 and higher education is essential to Tulane"s continued mission of academic excellence through community engagement,” President said.

Taylor, a graduate of Tulane Law School, is a member of the President"s Council at Tulane and a past member of the Board of Governors; the Center for Bioenvironmental Research Advisory Council; the Key to the Cure Committee and the Newcomb Dance Advisory Board. She also established the Tulane Water Prize to promote an innovative solution to a problem dealing with water and to encourage others to support similar challenges to social issues.

“The Patrick F. Taylor Foundation is dedicated to bringing about positive change in the lives of individuals and communities,” Taylor said. “I look forward to furthering this mission through my role as a member of the Board of Tulane.”

Taylor currently serves on the New Orleans Business Council and on the boards of numerous nonprofits, including The Smithsonian National Board, the Congressional Medal of Honor Foundation, the Education Commission of the States, the Greater New Orleans Foundation, the Catholic Leadership Institute National Advisory Board and the Xavier University Board of Trustees.

Taylor has received numerous awards, including the 2011 Dermot McGlinchey Lifetime Achievement Award from Tulane, 2012 Induction into the Paul Tulane Society and the 2013 Spark Plug Award from the Greater New Orleans Foundation.
