Live Auction and Funded Item Ian Lindsay, Auctioneer Sean Harris-Campf, Live Auction Reader March 30, 2019 Our CHEER! rallying cry this year, “Come Together,” pays tribute to the songbook of the Beatles; I am grateful to this amazing community for gathering again to celebrate Holy Names Academy. Think of this catalog as your personal “Ticket to Ride” and support our school in its139th year.

The funds we raise at CHEER! 2019 will support construction of the new underground parking garage and athletic complex atop the same space occupied by the current gym. This is a bold project, designed to meet the changing character of our Capitol Hill neighborhood and let the Academy continue to attract young women from throughout the Puget Sound region.

Meanwhile, tonight’s funded item will support the Scholarship Endowment program. Your generosity will help us generate funds for need-based financial aid this year and for many years to come, honoring the commitment of the Sisters of the Holy Names to serve young women of diverse ethnic and economic backgrounds.

Tonight we are honored to salute Suzie Burke, a longtime stalwart of our Board of Trustees and proud alum of the Class of ’61, with the Mother Marie Rose Award. I also thank our generous sponsors and the many volunteers for their gifts of money, time, and talent to make this evening a very special success. Sincerely,

Liz Swift ’71 Head of School & Principal

DESSERT DASH

Looking for a sweet ending to tonight’s soiree? Have you seen the beautiful and scrumptious desserts on display? There is a sweet treat with your table number on it—you just need to be sitting at the table that collects the most money to get the first choice.

1. Fill out the “Dessert Dash” bid cards—found on your table—by placing your bid number and the amount you want to individually contribute. 2. Before the start of the Live Auction, we will collect your table’s bid card. 3. The table with the highest amount collectively will get to pick dessert first. If your table’s bid is the lowest, you pick last. 4. Each table will be notified by the auctioneer on when it is time to send a runner to the dessert table to pick the table’s choice.

Bid high, people! Your tablemates are counting on you...

6 FUNDED ITEM

Tonight we raise funds for the Holy Names Academy Scholarship Endowment Fund. The financial aid the endowment has provided to thousands of families is a core part of the Academy’s mission and is rooted in the charism of the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary: a firm and enduring commitment to serving people of diverse backgrounds. The need for financial aid continues to grow each year. In 2018-19, nearly one-third of all students attending HNA (32.3%) received financial assistance, totaling more than $1.56 million.

By strengthening the Scholarship Endowment Fund, we ensure that the funds it generates will allow future generations of young women to benefit from the outstanding education available at the Academy.

Please bid generously tonight!

HEADS OR

TAILS

How to enter: Ambassadors are selling the chance to play. (Ambassadors are the HNA students wearing “John Lennon-style” spectacles.)

Cost: Just $25 per person to play

How it works: 1. When the auctioneer announces that the game is about to start, all paying participants get on your feet! 2. Participants will be asked to predict the result of the Auctioneer’s coin toss. You indicate your prediction by physically placing your hands on either your head or your tail. All choices are final. 3. Once the Auctioneer tosses the coin and reveals the result, those who chose incorrectly must sit down. Those participants who guessed correctly continue to stand. 4. Play continues until only one participant is still standing. The final person standing is the winner!

Prize: Two round-trip domestic airline tickets to anywhere in the continental U.S. that Alaska Airlines flies.

Value: $1,400

10 Auction Rules 1. Upon entry, each guest will be given a bid card. To bid in the silent auction, simply write your bid number on the silent- auction bid form. To bid in the live auction, hold your bid card up high with the number toward the auctioneer. 2. A bid acknowledged by the auctioneer in the live auction is a legal contract to purchase the item. In the silent auction, if the bid you have written is designated by the silent auction official as the top bid, it is a legal contract to purchase that silent auction item. 3. The auctioneer reserves the right to reject any bid that is merely a fractional advance over the prior bid. 4. Auction items will be awarded to one purchaser only, even if the item was purchased by a group of people. 5. CHEER! 2019 reserves the right, without notice, to add or withdraw auction items. 6. All purchases are final, and there will be no exchanges or refunds on items unless otherwise noted. 7. Winning bidders must pay for their items at the CHEER! 2019 Bank. Payment in full is mandatory at the auction. 8. HNA will gladly accept payment by cash, personal check, Visa, MasterCard, or Discover. Please make checks payable to Holy Names Academy. We are a 50l(c)(3) charitable organization, and auction payments are tax-deductible as a charitable contribution only to the extent provided by law. 9. The purchaser assumes the responsibility for locating and removing purchases from the auction premises. Purchasers must claim from the cashier the certificates/gift cards for services and tangible items not displayed. Guests will be asked to show their “paid” receipt for tangible items at the door when they depart. 10. All items not removed from the auction premises this evening must be claimed at HNA during school hours. 11. Purchasers’ claims for all goods and services must be mutually arranged with the donor unless otherwise noted. Goods and services must be claimed and used within one year of the auction date unless otherwise specified; please check all certificates for expiration dates. It is the purchaser’s

responsibility to contact the donor regarding purchased items or events. 12. Reservations for trips and vacation accommodations must be mutually arranged with the donor unless otherwise noted. No refunds will be allowed on travel packages for canceled tickets and/or accommodations. 13. Travel will be provided by donors as described, even if the prices increase above those stated. Because travel charges change, travel costs may increase or decrease the values stated, but no refunds will be allowed. 14. All vacation homes, condos, cabins, etc., may require a refundable damage/security deposit; please check with donor contact person. 15. Restaurant certificates/gift cards do not include alcohol, tax, or gratuity unless so specified. 16. Gift certificates/cards may not be redeemed for cash unless otherwise stated. 17. CHEER! 2019 has attempted to describe and catalog all items correctly, but all items are offered “as is, where is.” CHEER! 2019/Holy Names Academy neither warrants nor represents, and in no event shall be responsible for, the correctness of descriptions, genuineness, authorship, provenance, or condition of the items. No statement made in this catalog or made orally at the auction or elsewhere shall be deemed such a warranty, representation, or assumption of liability. The values listed are estimates only and are not warranted for tax purposes or fair market value. Items have not been appraised unless so noted. 18. Each person issued a bid number (bidder) assumes all risks and hazards related to the auction and items obtained at the auction. Each bidder agrees to hold Holy Names Academy harmless from any liability arising from its elected and appointed officials, members and employees, the auctioneer, the auction company and its agents and employees, the event organizers, sponsors, and/or volunteers connected with the auction. 19.
