The Herter Center has caught the eye of the Head of the Charles Regatta (HOCR) for renovation and use. The proposed adaption and partnership with DCR was announced via a Notice of Intent posted by the Executive Office of Energy & Environmental Affairs, which does not clarify public access requirements of the proponent, the use footprint requested by HOCR or their intended purpose for the space. The Charles River Conservancy submitted comments, which can be viewed here. The Herter Center, originally built as a museum, for a time fulfilled that intent as the original home of the ICA, but hard to access location and low attendance finally closed it. It was briefly used as office and archive space for the Sports Museum of but has been empty for several years.
