Meet the WHAM Hockey 101 Development League Instructors

Winny Brodt Brown - Division I three time National Champion, WCHA Defensive Player of the Year, USA National Team Player 1996-2006, Owner of Os (Overspeed) Hockey Training.

Winny began her career in the Roseville Youth Hockey Association, playing boys’ hockey, as girls’ high school hockey would not be introduced in the state of until 1995. Winny honed her skills at a young age playing A Squirts, A Pee Wees and A Bantams, and then onto junior varsity at Roseville. Winny played JV boys’ hockey her sophomore and junior year until girls’ hockey was introduced in the 1995-96 season.

During her senior year, Winny led the Roseville Raiders to an undefeated season and Minnesota’s first girls’ hockey state title. In 1996, Winny capped her senior year with bookend state tournament appearances in both soccer (fall) and golf (spring), while continuing her long- time passion for figure skating.

As a college freshman, she attended the University of New Hampshire, winning a national championship and was named tournament MVP. During her freshman season, the announced their intent to field a women’s hockey team. Winny transferred to Minnesota the following year and finished her career with two national championships, leading all defenders in points (134), goals (41) and assists (93), and was named the WCHA Defensive Player of the Year (2000).

Her career with Team USA included 10 years with the U.S. National Team from 1996 until 2006.

Nadine Muzerall: Current Gopher Women's Assistant Coach, Division I two-time National Champion, two-time Division I All-American and two-time MVP, Team Olympic Team, Leading scorer on Swiss National Championship team and Bronze Medalist in the European Cup, over 10 years of coaching experience.

Prior to joining the Women's Gopher Hockey coaching staff, Nadine played for Hockey Club Lugano in Switzerland. She spent two years playing for the professional team, where she was a first line forward and the team leader in points and goals. Her team won the Swiss National Championship and advanced to the European Cup, where they won a bronze medal.

Previous to her professional playing experience, Nadine was a teacher and hockey coach at Northfield Mount Hermon School in Mt. Hermon, Mass., from 2002 to 2009. She served as the head coach of the girls' varsity hockey program, where her duties included team practice, game preparation, national and international recruiting, tournament management, and college placement. In 2009, she was named the Northfield Mount Hermon Coach of the Year. She was also a physical education teacher where she designed and taught classes such as personal fitness, strength training and yoga.

Since 2008, she has coached at the Hill Hockey Clinic in Newburyport, Mass., where she instructed players on skating fundamentals and Russian syle to increase power. She also led off-ice training, including strength, power and speed drills.

As a Gopher hockey player, Nadine collected many awards and honors. She was a two-time All- American, earning the honor in 1998 and 2000. She was also named the Team MVP in those seasons. Muzerall was a finalist for the Patty Kazmaier Award as a freshman in 1998 and again in her senior year, 2001. She was the recipient of the Ridder Endowed Scholarship in 1998.

During her tenure, the Gophers won the AWCHA National Championship in 2000 and the WCHA Championship in 2001. She was named to the All-Tournament Team at the 2000 National Championship.

She is still the all-time career goals leader with 139 and the career leader in goals per game with 1.08. As a junior in 2000, she led the nation in goals, power play goals, power play points and game-winning goals. She graduated as the Minnesota career points leader, and is currently third on the all-time list with 235 career points.
