THE NATIONAL ACADEMY OF TELEVISION ARTS & SCIENCES ANNOUNCES WINNERS OF THE 37th ANNUAL SPORTS EMMY® AWARDS Iconic Broadcaster Verne Lundquist Receives Lifetime Achievement Award New York, NY – May 10, 2016 – The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) announced the winners of the 37th Annual Sports Emmy® Awards at a special ceremony at Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Frederick P. Rose Hall in New York City. “This has been another amazing year for Sports television,” said Bob Mauro, President, NATAS. “The diverse, inclusive, and innovative programming of Sports television continues to raise the bar of what is possible in allowing the fans to view the game in new and exciting ways. In addition to the outstanding work by this evening’s nominees, we are also honored to salute the iconic broadcaster, Verne Lundquist, for his unique and insightful perspective on golf, basketball, football, swimming, track & field and almost every sport known to man!” The awards were presented by a distinguished group of sports figures and television personalities including Bill Raftery and Tracy Wolfson (CBS Sports), Scott Van Pelt (ESPN), Kevin Burkhardt and Katie Nolan (FOX Sports), Greg Louganis (HBO Sports), Al Leiter and Harold Reynolds (MLB Network), Michelle Tafoya (NBC Sports), Ernie Johnson and Shaquille O’Neal (Turner Broadcasting), Pablo Ramirez (Univsion) and many more. Nominations were announced in 40 categories including Outstanding Live Sports Special, Live Sports Series and Playoff Coverage, three Documentary categories, Outstanding New Media, Outstanding Play-by- Play Announcer and Studio Host, among others. The Sports Emmy® Award recipients were chosen by a Blue Ribbon Panel of industry peers. The awards recognize outstanding achievement by individuals and programs broadcast throughout the 2015 calendar year.
