Saratoga City Council Special Meeting SARATOGA CITY COUNCIL SPECIAL MEETING May 4, 2021 5:00 P.M. SPECIAL MEETING Teleconference/Public Participation Information to Mitigate the Spread of COVID‐19 This meeting will be entirely by teleconference. All Council members and staff will only participate via the Zoom platform using the process described below. The meeting is being conducted in compliance with the Governor’s Executive Order N‐29‐20 suspending certain teleconference rules required by the Ralph M. Brown Act. The purpose of this order was to provide the safest environment for the public, elected officials, and staff while allowing for continued operation of the government and public participation during the COVID‐19 pandemic. Applicants for the Youth Commission and members of the public can view and participate in the Commission Interviews by: 1. Using the Zoom website https://us02web.zoom.us/j/82769242715 or App (Webinar ID827 6924 2715) and using the tool to raise their hand in the Zoom platform when directed by the Mayor to speak on an agenda item; OR 2. Calling 1.408.638.0968 or 1.669.900.6833, entering the Webinar ID (827 6924 2715), and pressing *9 to raise their hand to speak on an agenda item when directed by the Mayor. All applicants received copies of the following interview questions when they received their interview time: 1. What makes you uniquely qualified for this position as a member of the Saratoga Youth Commission? 2. How would you balance your time commitment for Youth Commission with your school and other activities? 3. The Youth Commission are the eyes and ears for the Council with respect to issues facing our youth. What are the top issues facing the youth in Saratoga today? 4. What is an accomplishment you are most proud of? 5. What is the most important challenge this country faces that you as a youth seek to impact?     SENIOR RECOGNITION ASHLEY AHN is a senior at Gunn High School and has been playing the violin in ECYS for six years. At school, she is a part of the Gunn Orchestra and Chamber Orchestra. For the past four years, she has also played with the KAMSA and SVVO organizations. In addition to playing the violin, Ashley figure skates and is on two synchronized skating teams. When she is not doing anything productive, Ashley enjoys playing Candy Crush, and is currently trying to beat level 763. Next fall, she plans on majoring in Biology at Santa Clara University. CLAIRE BANG has been a member of ECYS for five years, beginning in Sinfionetta and now as a four-year member of Senior Symphony. She received her school’s scholar awards for both the arts and sciences, in addition to the Presidential and Jefferson Awards for her service to the community. She will graduate as valedictorian from Pioneer. After being rejected from the prestigious UC Cupertino, Claire plans to pursue her interests in medicine and the arts at the University of California, Berkeley. TIFFANY CHANG is a senior at Mission San Jose High School, and has been a member of the Senior Symphony for 2 years. She is currently studying under Mr. Ron Waibel. Besides spending her time on violin, she’s also been taking ballet lessons, volunteering at a nonprofit organization shop, and teaching children music and art.
