TV Legend and Entertainer for the Ages Back with Alf’s Hit Talk Show, Airing on Wednesday, July 7 at 10 p.m. ET/PT New York, New York, June 24, 2004 – Television’s most popular alien has landed back on earth and is making his triumphant return to prime time as the host of his own talk show with the premiere of Alf’s Hit Talk Show. Alf is conquering a whole new entertainment medium with sidekick Ed McMahon in this half-hour special which airs on Wednesday, July 7 at 10 p.m. ET/PT. The show was executive produced by Paul Fusco (Alf) and Burt Dubrow (The Tom Green Show, The Christopher Lowell Show). Joining Alf for his very first talk show are special guests Dennis Franz, star of NYPD Blue, and comedian Drew Carey with special appearances by Joan Rivers and Henry Winkler. Immediately following this special event, TV Land will showcase four memorable episodes of Alf, specially chosen by Paul Fusco. “We are thrilled to celebrate the return of a television legend,” states Sal Maniaci, Vice President, Development and Production, TV Land. “Although he can be a bit temperamental and hard to work with, we still think it’s worth the investment. What better format for Alf to say everything that’s on his mind than with his very own talk show.” In response to Maniaci’s quote, Alf states, “It’s flattering to be called a television legend by the people at TV Land. They have demonstrated superb taste by giving me my own show and it’s humbling that they recognize my unequalled genius.” TV Land Productions was created in 2003 to create original programming that complements the network’s successful acquired programming slate. TV Land Productions is headed by Sal Maniaci, Vice President of Development and Production, TV Land and Nick at Nite. In addition to this production, TV Land Productions has also produced The TV Land Awards Show: A Celebration of Classic TV (March 2003 and 2004) and The Dick Van Dyke Show, Revisited, TV Land Production’s first network special for broadcast. • MTV International
Brand/Rebrand: MTV International 07.16.2015 In 1987, Sting sang the iconic words "I want my MTV" on the Dire Straits single "Money for Nothing." Now, nearly 30 years later, he can finally have it, thanks to an MTV International rebrand that hands a healthy portion of its channels' on-air real estate over to the viewers. Unofficially dubbed "I am my TV," the flashy centerpiece of the new MTVI is #MTVBump, an online platform that lets viewers upload their own videos to be considered as idents, or by submitting them through Instagram and Vine using the aforementioned hashtag. At the same time, the Viacom network has provided each of the regions across the 160+ countries in which it resides with a digital toolkit packed with hundreds of lo-fi-yet-chic animated backgrounds and 3D animated objects, then given them free reign to combine them at will. The goal, said Sean Saylor, VP of creative at MTV International, was "for it to feel fun" for each region to implement the new assets, "to mix and match them as much as they want and to make them feel unique and relevant to their audience… It's coming from the same direction aesthetically but it always looks a little different." MTVI has always packed its airwaves with imaginative design elements (a fresh new slate of its legendary Art Breaks also populate the rebrand), creating what is at least the illusion of an anything-goes aesthetic well-suited to its audience. But this new amalgamation of user-generated content and local in-house creative independence makes the illusion a reality - the brand is ceding control of its airwaves to a degree unprecedented in linear television, giving literally anyone in the world the chance to help dictate its look and feel.

Abstract (Limit: 200 words) A laboratory-based linear loading pavement test stand, the Minnesota Accelerated Loading Facility (Minne-ALF) simulates the passage of heavy traffic loads moving at speeds up to 65 kph (40 mph) over small, full-scale pavement test slabs. Hydraulic actuators control a rocker beam, which simulates loads. Researchers simulated the passage of 40-KN (9-kip) single-wheel loads at a rate of 172,000 per day, although wheel loads up to 100 kN (22 kips) can be simulated at varying speeds. Full-axle simulations are possible with frame modifications. Concrete slabs were cast and dowels were installed in slots across crack/joints. Test variables included joint fact texture, repair backfill material, and dowel material and length.

  • Making Care Count: an Overview of the Women's Economic
Making care count AN OVERVIEW OF THE WOMEN’S ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT AND CARE INITIATIVE ABOUT THE COVER. Created by African artist Monica Obaga, this artwork represents a vision of a future where families share care work at home. It was first used for an online campaign during the celebration of the African Women’s Day in July 2020. Across the globe, unpaid care and domestic work (UCDW) sustains communities and economies, provides essential care for children, sick and elderly people and those living with disabilities, and keeps households clean and families fed. Without unpaid care, the global economy as we know it would grind to a halt. Yet this work falls disproportionately on women and girls, limiting their opportunities to participate in decent paid employment, education, leisure and political life. Heavy and unequal UCDW traps women and girls in cycles of poverty and stops them from being part of solutions. Making unpaid care more valued and more visible In low-income settings such as Zimbabwe and From ‘radical’ to mainstream: the Philippines, where essential public services the evolving discussion on unpaid care are inadequate and tasks such as collecting Conversations on UCDW have evolved over the water and firewood are particularly heavy and decades from the ‘domestic labour debate’ time-consuming, women do up to six times of the 1970s—then considered radical—to as much UCDW as men.1 When domestic tasks addressing care increasingly being seen require inordinately long hours, time for direct today as a precondition for women’s political, care of people is further constrained.2 economic and social empowerment.

A FOURTH GRADE EXPERIENCE Donald G. Saari Northwestern University, Departments of Mathematics and of Economics August, 1991 “We’ve been trying to tell you you’re wrong!” With this severe reprimand, a fourth- grade girl, hand on hip, expressed the class’ growing exasperation with the slow witted mathematics professor who couldn’t understand the obvious. Dr. Diane Briars, Director of Mathematics, invited me to discuss modern mathematics with the teachers and several student groups as part of the Pittsburgh Public Schools’ observance of the national “Mathematics Awareness Week.” It was easy to prepare for classes fromtheeighthgradeon–agrabbagofunexpectedexamplesfrom“chaos,” mathematical astronomy, properties of surfaces, and statistical paradoxes could illustrate mathematical themes while capturing their imagination. But I fought to disguise my growing panic when informed that I was to talk to a fourth grade class. What does one say to fourth graders? It didn’t help to discover on arrival at the East Hill’s Elementary School that the core of my intended audience, Ms. Chamberlain’s class of very young children, all were sufficiently short to inspire extreme caution while walking about. I have found that the mathematics of decision making – in particular, voting – serves as a useful vehicle to introduce a variety of mathematical concepts starting with elementary counting, to algebra and geometry, and then, on a research level, certain delicate mathe- matical symmetries. So, I figured I could survive my allotted forty minutes by describing a counting problem caused by a voting example. The posed problem involved an hypothetical group of fifteen children permitted to watch only one TV show for the evening.

FHWA-HRT-11-045 NOVEMBER 2012 Research, Development, and Technology Turner-Fairbank Highway Research Center 6300 Georgetown Pike McLean, VA 22101-2296 FOREWORD This final report provides the comprehensive findings from two Transportation Pooled Fund (TPF) research projects, TPF-5(019): Full-Scale Accelerated Performance Testing for Superpave and Structural Validation and SPR-2(174): Accelerated Pavement Testing of Crumb Rubber Modified Asphalt Pavements. The research identified candidate purchase specification tests for asphalt binder that better discriminate expected fatigue cracking and rutting performance than current SUperior PERforming Asphalt PAVEment (Superpave®) tests. Full-scale accelerated pavement testing and laboratory characterization tests on mixtures and binders provided the basis for the recommendations. This report documents a historical review of the development of asphalt binder performance specifications, experimental design, test pavement construction and performance, statistical methodology to rank and identify the strongest candidates, and all pertinent laboratory characterization of binders and mixtures that supplemented the recommendations. The research also provided a detailed case study of pavement evaluation using falling weight deflectometer and objective means to evaluate two emerging technologies; the asphalt mixture performance tester and the Mechanistic-Empirical Pavement Design Guide.(1) This document will be of interest to highway personnel involved with Superpave®, materials selection, performance specifications, and pavement design and evaluation.
