THE VILLA’S VOICE | AUGUST 2021 | 9 Brief Bites! Restaurants • Reviews • Tips IRON ABBEY GASTRO PUB n Ron Dorfman NOISE! At volume levels I haven’t ever experienced in a dining establishment. Yes, this is a gastro pub, and celebrating beer drinkers sometimes get boister- ous, but the sound reverberation on the hard surfaces combined with the roar of the AC units overhead is beyond any sense of comfort while dining. The food was generally good. We ordered a tasty grilled Brussel Sprouts appetizer which had chorizo, slim green apple slices, and a bit of pimento cheese. It was excellent. The lime Margarita I had was 70% ice, but never- the-less satisfying. My entrée, Shepherds Pie, was disappointing. Not made with chopped meat, it had a few small chunks of beef swimming in gravy. Carrots? Two or three chunks. And Peas? None. Topped with mashed pota- toes and a little Parmesan cheese, it did not have the tradition broiled crust or finish. My wife had Shrimp Tacos, a trio of nice corn tortillas topped with shred- ded cabbage and salsa verde. Kind of dry, she requested salsa. The waitress, said they didn’t have any, and offered to get her Pico De Gallo. Served in a tiny monkey cup (with a $1.50 up charge) it just didn’t moisten the meal very well. My advice: Remove your hearing aids and give it a try. Be part of the crowd (if you dare) and have a rousing meal. Otherwise, stick to the NaBrasa Iron Abbey Brazilian Steakhouse next door (same owners/operators) for a more relaxed, 80 Easton Road, Horsham, PA 19044 slightly fancier dining experience. Entertainment Theater • Exhibitions • Reviews A NEW BOOK: “THE MANY FACES OF NEHEMIAH” n Ron Dorfman, publication designer of The Many Faces of Nehemiah “A CHARACTER ACTOR is a supporting actor who plays unusual, interesting, or eccentric characters. The term, often contrasted with that of leading actor, is somewhat abstract and open to interpretation…” NEHEMIAH PERSOFF has certainly played the “unusual” during his fascinat- ing career. From award winning roles in stage productions including Sholem Aleichem, Fiddler on the Roof, Death of a Salesman, and Peter Pan; to films like On the Waterfront, Hitchock's The Wrong Man, Al Capone, Some Like It Hot, The Comancheros, Red Sky at Morning, Voyage of the Damned, Yentl; and TV 's For Whom the Bell Tolls, The Untouchables, Gilligan’s Island, The Time Tunnel, The Flying Nun, The High Chaparral, Gunsmoke, Hawaii Five-O, Battlestar Galactica. You know him. You've seen him over the years. And he's now nearly 102 years old! Character actor Nehemiah Persoff recalls his early childhood years in Jerusalem, his coming to New York during the terrible Depression, his work as a technician in the New York subway, and his remarkable transition to Broadway and Hollywood. This gifted storyteller, relates with poignancy and humor, his cultural and ethical clash with the entertainment industry, and the price paid for a successful career.
