2016 AUSTRALIAN AGE CHAMPIONSHIPS – MULTICLASS
Once again Henry Pickering and Hayden Ross represented Bayside at the 2016 Georgina Hope Australian Age Multiclass Championships in Adelaide. Henry’s visitor status as a Brit during an Olympic year means that there were additional medals to be won. Medals were also awarded to first, second and third placed Australians. This resulted in Henry & Hayden both receiving a bronze medal in the 50m Back which was a wonderful sight on the podium. This was again repeated in the 100 Back with Henry bagging the silver medal and Hayden the bronze medal. Henry also finished 5th in the 50m Free and 100m Free and capped off a superb meet with a bronze medal in the 200m IM and a huge 10 second pb to match. Hayden received a bronze medal in the 400m Free and finished 9th in the 50m Free and 6th in the 100m Free.
Henry and Hayden had been training hard under the guidance of Ben Drysdale and this was a fitting departure for Ben with the 6 medal haul. Ben has been training Henry and Hayden for a number of years now and he will be missed as he was a very dedicated coach.
Well done to Henry and Hayden who represented Bayside with distinction!
2016 AUSTRALIAN AGE CHAMPIONSHIPS & OLYMPIC TRIALS
The 2016 Hancock Prospecting Australian Swimming Championships were held at the SA Aquatic and Leisure Centre in Adelaide in early April. This year being an Olympic year the championships also doubled as selection trials for Rio so the nation’s top swimmers were all in action including Cameron McEvoy, James Magnussen, Mitch Larkin, Cate & Bronte Campbell, Emily Seebohm and Melbourne’s own Mack Horton.
Bayside had 4 swimmers competing at this very exciting event including Emily Bresnehan, Nicholas Georgiou, Hayden Ross & Andrew Berecz.
Emily competed in the 50m back where she finished 22nd with a pb and also the 100m back where she finished 42nd. Great results Emily as you were one of the youngest competitors in both events!
Nicholas competed in the 100m breast where he finished 49th. Big day for Nicholas as he & Terry made the return trip from Melbourne on the day of his event.
Hayden competed in the 200m free multi-class where he finished 17th and also the 400m free multi-class where he finished 22nd. Taking into account Hayden’s classification he finished 5th in S8 for both events.
Andrew Berecz competed in the 100m fly and finished 46th which was just outside his pb. Andrew has competed at a number of Nationals now which is a wonderful achievement whilst undertaking University studies also.
Not only was it exciting for the swimmers to be competing but also mixing it with the big names whether it be in the warm up pool, marshalling or simply on pool deck.
Well done to Emily, Nicholas, Hayden & Andrew, Bayside is very proud of you!!
PRESENTATION NIGHT A good night was had by all at the Presentation Night. Guest speaker was Matt Welsh who was a former World Champion in Backstroke and Butterfly. It was great to see everyone get together and celebrate a successful year in the pool. Below are the trophy winners for the year.

BAYSIDE ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING – 23RD AUGUST
Everyone is invited to attend the AGM on the 23rd August. Without the support
of the committee there would be no swimming club. We are voluntary members and we rely on help from our parents. Most members of the committee for example also have full time careers too. There are plenty of ways you can help out and without making a commitment each week. Several members are standing down and the club needs other parents to step up and
help out. We would ask that all of you please give consideration to helping to support your club in some way. You do not always need to have experience just a willingness to support your child in their chosen sport and a bit of free time.
