BLUE JACKETS NOTES FACING THE CREAM OF THE CENTRAL (AND THE LEAGUE) The four games against the Hurricanes were just the beginning of a tough stretch for the Blue Jackets. The club plays 10 of 12 games against the top three teams of the Central Division, the Tampa Bay Lightning, Florida Panthers and Hurricanes from Mar. 18-Apr. 8. Those three teams are a combined 66-23-9 (141 pts) on the season, picking up points at a 72 percentage rate. Tampa Bay and Carolina, in fact, are the top two teams in the NHL in percentage points (TBL, 0.758; CAR, 0.734) while Florida is eighth-T (.667).

MARCH OF THE BLUE JACKETS CBJ have found a lot of success in the month of March over the last number of seasons. The club (5-3-3 this March) has posted a winning record in eight of the last nine Marchs with the lone exception a 4-9-0 record in 2015-16. The team is 72-37-13 in 122 games in the month since March 2013 (.643 pt. pct.) and since March 2017 the Blue Jackets are 38-17-8 in 63 games (.667 pt. pct.). The Blue Jackets are 12-4-4 in their last 20 March games overall since Mar. 24, 2019.

CBJ IN CLOSE AFFAIRS The Blue Jackets have played in 20 one-goal contests this season (10-2-8), including six of the last seven games which were each decided after regulation. Their five-game overtime steak from Mar. 11-20 was the second longest overtime streak in club history (3-0-2 from Feb. 26-Mar. 7, 2013), trailing only a six-game stretch of games decided after regulation from Dec. 9-20, 2014 (5-0-1). Columbus has played the second-most one-goal games in the NHL, trailing only Anaheim (22). The club has found success in one-goal games over the past few seasons as CBJ leads the League in one-goal victories and rank sixth in win percentage since 2016-17 (.557; 93-32-42).

BACK-TO-BACK Columbus plays its sixth of nine scheduled back-to-back sets of the season on Saturday and Sunday at Detroit. It’s the second of two back-to-backs in the month of March with Columbus going 1-0-1 in the 2-game series vs. Dallas on Mar. 13-14. CBJ have recorded points in seven of ten back-to-back games this season (5-3-2 overall; 3-2-0 in 1st game).

MAESTRO MAGIC Oliver Bjorkstrand has tallied 6-6-12 in the last eleven games, including 2-3-5 in the past four outings. He leads the team in goals (tied), assists, points and multi-point efforts with 12-16-28 and seven multi-point outings in 34 games. Bjorkstrand has points in three-straight games against the Red Wings (1-3-4) and has posted three multi-point efforts in the last six contests against the club (3-5-8). The winger ranks third in the NHL in points per 60 minutes during 5-on-5 play (min. 34 GP) at 2.67, trailing only Connor McDavid (3.37) and Leon Draisaitl (2.90).

ATKINSON BRINGS THE OFFENSE Cam Atkinson notched his fifth multi-point outing of the season on Thursday with 1-1-2. He became the second player in Blue Jackets history to play in 600 games on Mar. 13 vs. Dallas. He ranks second on the franchise’s all-time list (behind ) in goals and points with 210-181-391 in 605 games and owns the franchise mark with 16 career shorthanded goals. His four shorthanded goals this season are tied for most in a single-season in his career (2018-19) and one short of tying the franchise record for a single campaign (Nash; 2008-09).
