A Response from UJA Federation

The Hamilton Jewish News and the UJA Federation of Hamilton welcome divergent viewpoints from members of our community. This issue of HJN includes an update on activities undertaken by the Arab, Muslim, Jewish Dialogue Committee; an initiative supported by UJA Federation, as well as an opinion piece on the same subject, contributed by Dr. Lawrence Hart. The matter of UJA Federation participation in the dialogue has received an extraordinary amount of attention. Contrary to Dr. Hart’s assertion of being ignored, the matter has been repeatedly discussed. Both Dr. Hart and Dr. Finkelstein have taken opportunities to present their views with the Public Affairs Committee, the Federation Executive Committee and the Federation Board of Directors. In each case, Federation leadership has voted to continue support of the program. It is distressing that this matter has taken up so much LAWRENCE SINUKOFF will be celebrating 15 seasons in the of the agenda of our community’s leadership. Including Single trip, annual plans and top up coverage. Dr. Hart’s use of the phrase “Zionists among us” implies that Broker working with several of the top insurance companies in Canada those whose opinions are not in agreement with his are not lovers and with well established rapport. supporters of Israel. This is patently untrue and demeaning. The Board of Directors of the UJA Federation of Hamilton strives to make the best policy decisions based on all the evidence it receives. It is always open to divergent opinions as evidenced by the publication of the article by Dr. Hart. TRAVEL INSURANCE

Together we sent $150,000 in cash to Israel within the first weeks of the war through the Israel Emergency Campaign. 600 members of the community gathered for the Stand with Israel Rally/UJA Campaign Opening last July.

You gave more time this year. The energy and enthusiasm of our many lay leaders, volunteers and donors was phenomenal. We held more planning meetings and more fabulous campaign events than ever before. (Charles Krauthammer and Alan Der- showitz in Toronto, Brigitte Gabriel in Hamilton.)

We have shown that we are a generous and unified community and together we can achieve great things.

THANK YOU FOR STANDING TOGETHER. THANK YOU FOR GETTING INVOLVED. THANK YOU FOR CARING. HAMILTON JEWISH NEWS • JUNE, 2007 JEWISH NEWS HAMILTON
