LSU leads the all-time series, 40-13. Tennessee Tiger Outfielder Bruce Sprowl returns to his hometown of Knoxville, Tenn. this weekend and will be playing in front of sev- eral family members. Sprowl, who was named SEC Player of the Week Feb. 21-26, leads the SEC with five triples and has not committed an error his entire career. The senior faced his younger brother, Brian, earlier this season. Brian is a junior outfielder for Tennessee Tech. LSU swept the Golden Eagles in a three-game series, Feb. 17-19.

Ranking Game SEC play has not been kind LSU in 2006 as the Tigers have faced two top-five ranked teams in their last two SEC series. This weekend will mark LSU’s seventh, eighth and ninth-straight games against ranked opponents. Tennessee enters the matchup with the No. 24 ranking by NCBWA. The Tigers suffered a 2-1 defeat to top-ranked Mississippi State, March 24-26. LSU was then swept by No. 5 South Carolina last weekend in Alex Box Stadium. The Tigers own a 2-5 record against ranked foes this season. LSU’s only other win against a Top 25 team came against 12th-ranked Tulane on March 7.

It’s Not Over ‘Till It’s Over Come-from-behind victories have been a common trend for LSU as the Tigers own 14 on the year. LSU’s last nine wins have been of the comeback variety. Two of the most notable wins were on March 19 versus Kentucky and March 25 against Mississippi State. Quinn Stewart belted a dramatic two-out, two-run homer to ignite a four-run rally in the top of the ninth versus the Wildcats. LSU had trailed 2-1 entering the final frame, but Stewart responded with his blast with two strikes. A week later, the theme repeated itself as the Tigers sent No. 1 Mississippi State to its first loss of the season. Will Harris broke a 6-6 tie with a two-run double in the eighth, capping a five-run eighth inning. LSU turned a 6-3 deficit around on another two-run homer by Stewart, followed by the tying single from Matt Liuzza.

Injury Report All-SEC freshman infielder Chris Jackson underwent elbow surgery at the beginning of February. Jackson, who is also the football team's punter, needed to repair an injury he sustained in the game versus Vanderbilt on Oct. 8. Sophomore pitcher Eric English underwent Tommy John surgery in the offseason and will be missed for the entire 2006 season. English should be healthy for a return in 2007. Trey Simon has been suffering from lower back trouble and is out indef- initely. Four players are returning from injuries that sidelined them in 2004. Pitchers Michael Bonura and Nolan Cain return from Tommy John surgeries, while outfielder Steven Broschofsky and left-hander Daniel Forrer are back after shoulder injuries.

Stewart Enters The Record Books Right fielder Quinn Stewart entered the LSU all-time record books on March 11 in an 11-7 victory over Stetson. Stewart became the 10th player in LSU history to hit three homers in a game and finished with a career-high six RBI. The senior joined a prestigious list that includes the likes of Eddy Furniss, Brandon Larson and Brad Cresse. The last player to hit three homers in a game was Zeph Zinsman on Feb. 23, 2001 versus Duquesne. For the series, Stewart hit .455 (5-for-11) with one double, four homers, eight RBI and four runs.

Young But Wise True freshman J.T. Wise earned SEC Freshman of the Week honors after batting .563 (9-for-16) in the Tigers four games between March 7-12 with one double, one homer, two RBI and two runs. His solo homer against No. 12 Tulane, LSU's first ranked opponent of the season, capped a three-run rally for the Tigers, erasing a 2-0 deficit in the sixth inning of a game LSU went on to win by a 4-3 score. Wise enters the weekend with a team-high .348 average. Much of Wise’s success can be attributed to his family baseball background. His father, Sonny, was his high school coach at Florida powerhouse Apopka High. Wise is also the great nephew of former New York Yankee Bobby Richardson, a five-time Gold Glove winner and MVP of the .
