Buses run every 15 minutes or so- the journey takes 10 minutes followed by a 10 minute walk down the road. Ask for Queen Street - the bus stop is a short distance after the BP garage on Pontefract Road (see over for a map). Turn left up Skelton Grange Road (signed to Skelton Grange Centre) and walk 1/4 of a mile, over the canal and river. Turn left and the Environment Centre is on your right. By Train The nearest station is Leeds Rail Station. Taxis: from just outside the main station entrance. Buses: From the station's main entrance, cross over two pedestrian crossings to the bus stops outside the Leeds Shopping Plaza on Boar Lane. Bus 167, 168, or 446. Or follow signs to Corn Exchange and then Bus Station to get the 189 or 410. Follow the bus directions above. By Bike From Leeds City centre you can follow the road route or come along the canal although there are a couple of bridges and gates to negotiate. Follow signs for the Royal Armouries and get onto the canal Tow Path. Follow the canal down stream, away from the city. Eventually you'll get to Thwaite Mills Museum. The Tow Path will pass a pylon just before a high concrete bridge. Come up onto the bridge and turn left over the canal and the river. Turn left at the T junction and the Environment Centre is on your right. By Road From Leeds: 1. Head South out of Leeds on A61 (signposted Wakefield, Rothwell or Hunslet). 2. At first large junction (Carshock on left hand side) go straight on following A639 to Pontefract & Rothwell. 3. Carry straight on for about 2 miles (signed Rothwell A61, Pontefract A639 and Stourton). 4. At traffic lights by a Skoda garage and the Crooked Billet pub bear left. 5. At traffic lights by SGB holdings turn left onto Skelton Grange Road 6. Half way down, Skelton Grange Road is marked as Private/No access but don't worry! Carry straight on over canal and river bridge. At T junction you will see the sub station and car park in front of you. Turn right and then left to access car park and sharp left once in car park. Park at far end and follow brick path to centre. From the North on the A1/M1: Come down past Wetherby on the A1, the road changes name to the A1(M) then changes into the M1. Keep going and come off at J44. Turn right at the roundabout and go over the motorway, go straight over the 2nd roundabout (signs for Stourton B6481). Eventually you’ll get to Arnold Laver on the left at some traffic lights. Turn right here onto Skelton Grange Road, then follow point 6 above From the South on the M1: At J43 filter onto the M621 and come off at J7. Take the exit at the roundabout signed for Leeds and Hunslet A61. Opposite the Jet garage, turn right down Queen Street and right again at the end. Turn left at the first traffic lights up Skelton Grange Road then follow point 6 above. From the West on the M62: At J27, filter onto the M621 then come off at J7. Follow M1 directions above. • Leeds Transport Plan
Transport CONTENTS Strategies and initiatives Transport links Strategies & Initiatives Leeds City Region ‘West Yorkshire Plus’ Transport Fund Targeted investment in transport has the potential to unlock significant economic growth in our City Region. Decades of under-investment means that the capability of the network has not kept pace with economic and population growth leading to problems of delays, congestion and crowding which will hamper future economic growth unless they are addressed. The Leeds City region partnership is working to secure greater local control over transport spending and decision-making, The Leeds City Deal with government was confirmed in July 2012, creating an opportunity for Rail Devolution, and the proposal to create a £1billion ‘West Yorkshire Plus’ Transport Fund’ to invest in transport in West Yorkshire and York over the next decade. In July 2014, the Leeds City Region secured £1 billion in July 2014 some of which will fund the Strategic Economic Plan and the West Yorkshire + Transport Fund, and help drive economic growth in the region The transformational schemes that have been identified for further development and investment are: Electrification and upgrade of all core rail routes Rail or tram train connections between Leeds and Bradford to Leeds Bradford International Airport Enhancing the quality of the local rail network through the outputs of the Yorkshire Rail Network Study including the restoration of the Wortley Curve to provide better links to Bradford from the East Coast Main Line, Wakefield and Sheffield Preparing the local rail network for High Speed Rail Expansion of the initial NGT trolleybus network to provide a core ‘rapid transit’ network for West Yorkshire Full upgrade of the strategic motorway network A number of Core Projects, listed below have been identified for Leeds.

  • Leedstransport - Scheme Summary
TRANSPORT IN LEEDS: JOIN THE CONVERSATION ON THE FUTURE OF TRANSPORT IN OUR CITY #LeedsTransport - Scheme Summary Park and Ride Improvements: Park & Ride is an important element of the emerging Transport Strategy for Leeds. Park & Ride is good for the city economy and the environment as it reduces parking in the city centre and also helps to reduce congestion and improve the city’s air quality by reducing the number of cars entering the city centre. The Elland Road Park and Ride, delivered in partnership with WYCA, is already proving very popular, with a second phase implemented creating a total of 800 spaces and a temporary overflow of an additional 60 spaces and is currently averaging 4000 parked cars per week and considering a further expansion of an additional 250- 300 spaces. Temple Green - A further 1000 spaces has now opened at Temple Green in the Aire Valley Enterprise Zone, this is already seeing success with on average 2500 parked cars per week. Building on the success of these first two Park and rides with nearly 2000 spaces provided, a further 2000 more Park and ride spaces are to be created with a new site opening at Stourton Park and Ride in 2019 and the exploration of a North of City Park and Ride site. Bus network Improvements: A new Leeds High Frequency Bus Network – over 90% of core bus services (on main bus corridors) will run every 10 minutes between 7am and 8pm. 1000 upgraded existing bus stops with real time information (RTI) information displays at bus stops in communities throughout Leeds together with up to the minute travel information on mobile devices and new ways to pay for travel.
