The achievements this football season of the Prairie View Panthers, under the mentorship of Coach Stevens and his able assistants, are recorded to-date as follows:

C. EIECTION

In November — this month — a very important state election will be held, which will decide some vital Questions affecting the progress of Texas for the next half centurv. Several important Constitutional Amendments will be sutoitted to theEroters. Also the Board of Education will be selected by ballot, which will have the power to select the Commissioner of Education to function as prescribed in the Gilmer-Aiken Law. Let no Qualified voter here neglect to exercise his or her duty as a citizen on this Election DaNovember 8, 1949. -2—

D, HOMECOMING

Homecoming has been scheduled November 19, in connection with the Prairie View - Langston game to be played in Blackshear Field. A great number of friends and Ex-Students of Prairie View will visit the campus on that occasion. It should be kept in mind that we are the host for this im­ portant event, and it is our desire that each staff member do everything to make these visitors feel at "Home*"

Colorful and elaborate floats will be sponsored bjr several organizations. This will be one of the gala occasions of the year I

It is the hope that every loyal employee of the institution will arrange to witness this Homecoming Game. Since everyone cannot pla3^ on the team, we can give our moral support by attending the game,

E. STATE TEACHERS' ASSOCIATION

The Annual Session of The Colored Teachers Association of Texas will convene in Houston, Texas, November 24-26.. It has been the practice of the institution, through the years, to grant permission to any enrolled member to attend this Annual Meeting. This custom will be observed this year. Staff members are urged to pay their dues of $2,50 to Professor George W. ("Chief") Reeves, who is the official representative on the campus for the Association,

The Annual "Y" Leadership Institute for the Southwest Area Council will be observed December 9, 10 and 11, 1949. The Discussion Leader will be Dr. R. F. Harvey, Chaplain,. Tuskegee Institute, Alabama. There will be in attendance more than 400 young High School boys and girls. Also there will^be upward of 75 adult sponsors present. This is a period of great inspiration for the visiting and on—campus students,.

Dr. Harvey is one of the outstanding ministers of our times, and it is the hope that all staff members will hear his sermon at 11:00 a.m.,- December 11, 1949*

H. CAROL BRICE

Carol Brice will make her initial appearance at Prairie View in recital * This stellar performer in song has won in her own rights an enviable record with the music lovers of the world. Her appearance here will mark a signal event in our experiences this school year.

Iv COMMUNITY CHEST

It is important that we begin now to retire our Community Chest obligations. The Directors and Heads of Departments will be bringing this matter to the attention of the staff members soon, with the hope that the response will be 100$,

J, The Annual Current Report issued by the Directors of the General Education Board, in commenting on the purposes that inspired philanthropy to con­ tribute liberally to social enterprises, summed up in these poignant words:

"They give it (money) awav because they wish to help mankind climb the' long winding trail out of the slough of ignorance, superstition poverty" and disease up to the higher levels of human dignity and well being—the lovers of mankind, Members of the Brotherhood of Men and Women under the Fatherhood of God."
