Written by Cross Country Captain—Rose Barlow Y8 It was a cold, wintery day when Glossopdale School competed in the High Peak cross country trials at New Mills on Thursday 7th December 2017. First race was the Year 7’s with Drew Wilkes coming 5th, Jamie Hollick was 7th, 18th Daniel Porter, 22nd Dan Woodham, Frankie Turner 25th and Bradley Carhart was 26th for the boys. Unfortunately, Jack Bowler-Greenwood became injured after a promising start but am sure he will be a strong contender in future races. The Year 7 girl’s had a fantastic race with Rebecca Robinson finishing 4th, Lily Barlow 5th place, 6th Mary Culleton, 10th Erin Stopford, Holly Powell 12th and Amelia Pearson 14th. Also Niamh Hamilton became injured whilst competing and had to withdraw from the race. Finally, the last race for Glossopdale was the Year 8/9’s. First back for the boy’s was Oliver Wakefield in 14th place, 15th Anthony Warburton, 24th Danny Smith and Nick Basile in 26th position. In the girl’s, Rose Barlow hot-footed it to victory by winning and becoming the High Peak champion for her race. Also brilliant runs by Josie Swann coming 4th, Niamh Boyle 5th and Izzy Grant was 27th. Nearly half of the Glossopdale team will go on to compete for the High Peak at the Derbyshire School’s trials early next year as a result of individuals finishing in the top ten positions in their age groups. Fabulous results!! Well done everybody!

Each week at Glossopdale we introduce our Thought for the Week and ask our students a Big Question such as “What is Modern Britain?”, “Should We Give to Charity?”, “What is Fake News?” and recently “What is Advent?” The aim of this is to promote independent thinking, research and forming of opinions as well as encouraging students to develop an interest in the wider world. We post the topics on our website and Facebook page so you can join in the debate too. GCSE PRESENTATION EVENING 2017
