The City of Kamloops welcomes you to the Tournament Capital Centre!

Since creating the Tournament Capital Program in 2001, Kamloops has hosted an impressive range of sporting and cultural events that attract participants and visitors from far and wide.

Each year, the Tournament Capital Program contributes over $10 million to the local economy – and that means we all win as a result. Continuing to invest in the program ensures future opportunities for our community. We will succeed through individual and organizational collaboration, and by developing and participating in quality sports programs and events that benefit all athletes.

Our success to date and our future growth would not be possible without a team of winners – local volunteers and business, sporting and cultural organizations. We thank all of you!

Magazine_WP_2009_SP.indd 35 10/2/09 11:25:49 AM TRU WolfPack Athletics Captures CCAA Community Service Award In the past year, the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack had their athletes attend a number of different community events, they started a kids club at their games and held benefits to help support the less fortunate. Those efforts have been recognized by the Canadian College Athletics Association. The WolfPack beat out six other schools to win the CCAA Community Service Award for 2008-2009. The honor was handed out in June at the CCAA Annual General Meeting in Edmonton, Alberta. “This is an award which means a great deal to us,” said Athletic Director Ken Olynyk. “ It’s recognition that our efforts to become more entrenched in the community and provide a ‘complete’ educational experience for our student athletes is being applauded by our colleagues.” Sports Information Officer Larry Read was in Edmonton to receive the award on behalf of the program. “It was an honor,” he said. “One of my big goals coming to TRU from CFJC TV, was to get the athletes involved in of events next year. “We have the community as much as I am. partnered with Non-profits Men's Basketball Women's Volleyball WolfPack I was lucky that they saw the from the Canadian Cancer at lend a hand at Cheerleaders at ‘fun’ in volunteering and helping Society, to Juvenile Diabetes Community Living Wendy's Aids Walk for Life those who have a tougher time to Organ Donation this coming Day 2009 Dreamlift 2009 in life than we do.” season,” said Olynyk. 2009 Some of the highlights of This award has been around community involvement since 2000.
