Paolo Carpineto received the degree in Medicine and Surgery at the University "G. D'Annunzio" of Chieti, Italy, in 1989. He obtained the specialization in Ophthalmology at the University of Catania, Italy, in 1993. He was an Assistant Professor of Visual Apparatus Diseases at the University "G. D'An- nunzio" of Chieti-Pescara from 2002 to 2010. Since 2011 Paolo Carpineto is an Associate Professor of Visual Apparatus Diseases at the University “G. d’Annunzio of Chieti-Pescara, Department of Medi- cine and Ageing Sciences, Section of Vision Sciences. Since 2014, he is the Head of the Specialization School of Ophthalmology of the University “G. d’Annunzio of Chieti-Pescara. He belongs to the teaching staff of the Graduate School of Orthoptics and Assistance in Ophthalmology of the University “G. d’Annunzio of Chieti-Pescara. He works as vitreoretinal surgeon at the Ophthalmology Clinic, Paolo Carpineto Center of Excellence in Ophthalmology, of Chieti Clinical Hospital. He is the Scientific Section Repre- sentative in "Age Related Macular Degeneration" and "Retinal Dystrophies" sections of the Clinical site no. 63 (Excellence Eye Research Centre, University G. d’Annunzio of Chieti-Pescara) of European Vision Institute Clinical Research Network (EVICR.net). He is a reviewer of the Italian Instruction, University and Research Ministry (MIUR), a reviewer of the Register of Expert Peer Reviewers for Italian Scientific Evaluation (REPRISE) and a vitreoretinal national expert of the Italian Society of Ophthalmology (SOI). Paolo Carpineto is the author of 272 scientific papers, 99 of which peer reviewed and cited by Journal Citation Report and Scopus; h-index=27; total citations 2066. His research is mainly focused on vitreoretinal diseases, glau- coma, diagnostic imaging, signal-transduction proteins and apoptosis molecules in eye fluids.
