Meet Our Editorial Board Member Paolo Carpineto Meet Our Editorial Board Member Current Pharmaceutical Biotechnology, 2019, Vol. 20, No. 8 605 Meet Our Editorial Board Member Paolo Carpineto School of Ophthalmology, National High Technology Center - CNAT, Department of Medicine and Aging Sciences, University "G. d'Annunzio" Chieti-Pescara Paolo Carpineto received the degree in Medicine and Surgery at the University "G. D'Annunzio" of Chieti, Italy, in 1989. He obtained the specialization in Ophthalmology at the University of Catania, Italy, in 1993. He was an Assistant Professor of Visual Apparatus Diseases at the University "G. D'An- nunzio" of Chieti-Pescara from 2002 to 2010. Since 2011 Paolo Carpineto is an Associate Professor of Visual Apparatus Diseases at the University “G. d’Annunzio of Chieti-Pescara, Department of Medi- cine and Ageing Sciences, Section of Vision Sciences. Since 2014, he is the Head of the Specialization School of Ophthalmology of the University “G. d’Annunzio of Chieti-Pescara. He belongs to the teaching staff of the Graduate School of Orthoptics and Assistance in Ophthalmology of the University “G. d’Annunzio of Chieti-Pescara. He works as vitreoretinal surgeon at the Ophthalmology Clinic, Paolo Carpineto Center of Excellence in Ophthalmology, of Chieti Clinical Hospital. He is the Scientific Section Repre- sentative in "Age Related Macular Degeneration" and "Retinal Dystrophies" sections of the Clinical site no. 63 (Excellence Eye Research Centre, University G. d’Annunzio of Chieti-Pescara) of European Vision Institute Clinical Research Network (EVICR.net). He is a reviewer of the Italian Instruction, University and Research Ministry (MIUR), a reviewer of the Register of Expert Peer Reviewers for Italian Scientific Evaluation (REPRISE) and a vitreoretinal national expert of the Italian Society of Ophthalmology (SOI). Paolo Carpineto is the author of 272 scientific papers, 99 of which peer reviewed and cited by Journal Citation Report and Scopus; h-index=27; total citations 2066. His research is mainly focused on vitreoretinal diseases, glau- coma, diagnostic imaging, signal-transduction proteins and apoptosis molecules in eye fluids. Karen and Brian who seek to enter the Catholic Church through Profession of Faith, Holy Eucharist and Confirmation. Steven and Alyssa who will receive Holy Eucharist and Confirmation. Nick, Matt, Imma, Jenna, Nicholas, Lindsay, and Tianna who will receive the Sacrament of Confirmation. Please keep the RCIA candidates in your prayers during these final days of preparation. Our 9th graders had a day of retreat last Saturday. They began at 9:00am and finished at 1:00pm when I celebrated a Teaching Mass for them. A big thank you to Lisa Paradiso, our Youth Minister, for organizing and running this day of reflection. Thanks also to Louis of Brick restaurant in Denville for providing and donating the food. We appreciate our catechists and volunteers and Antioch Team who gave of their time, generosity and joy. I look forward to the Knights of Columbus St. Patrick’s Dinner Dance next Saturday, March 10th. For information on this dance please see inside the bulletin. Several Sources operates a special family program to provide food, clothing, school supplies and emergency financial assistance to impoverished families. Many of these families began at one of the Several Sources maternity homes and often times the mom finds it impossible to make ends meet.

Office of the Public Defender (A-69-18) (082262) Argued January 6, 2020 -- Decided April 15, 2020 LaVECCHIA, J., writing for the Court. The Court considers whether the Tort Claims Act (TCA), which governs tort actions filed against public entities and employees, applies to a criminal defendant’s legal malpractice claim filed against his public defender. The Court also considers whether, if the TCA applies, a claim for loss of liberty damages is subject to its “verbal threshold” for pain and suffering awards, as set forth in N.J.S.A. 59:9-2(d). This case arises out of the representation of plaintiff Antonio Chaparro Nieves by a state public defender, Peter Adolf, Esq. After his conviction, Nieves was granted post- conviction relief based on the ineffective assistance of counsel at trial. DNA evidence later confirmed that Nieves was not the perpetrator, and the underlying indictment against him was dismissed. Nieves subsequently recovered damages from the State for the time he spent wrongfully imprisoned. He then filed the present legal malpractice action seeking damages against the Office of the Public Defender (OPD) and Adolf. Defendants moved for summary judgment, arguing that the TCA barred the damages sought because Nieves failed to vault N.J.S.A.
