Page 7 KINDER G NEWS Hello everybody! I hope you enjoyed your Easter break! We all had a fantastic day last Thursday, filled with lots of Easter fun, not to mention a sneaky visit from the on Thursday afternoon. I have been hearing about some amazing things everyone has done over the Easter break, and can’t wait to hear about more during our news session each day. We have been talking about healthy eating in class, including everyday foods and sometimes foods. As a part of this, we have also been talking about portioning our lunches so we have enough food left at recess time. It would be great if you could involve your child in packing their lunch and discussing what foods they should eat at lunch (such as sandwiches) and what food they could save for recess. With the fast approaching cold weather, please ensure all clothing (such as jumpers) is labelled with a name. I am more than happy to do this in the morning, just let me know. School jumpers are also available to be purchased from the office. Looking forward to the week ahead! Emma Gulliford Kindergarten G

K/1B NEWS Hello Everyone, I hope that Easter Bunny found you and that you all had a relaxing Easter break. K/1 B were certainly very surprised when Easter Bilby made a surprise visit to our classroom. With the cooler mornings and children wearing jumpers, can I please ask that you make sure items of clothing are all clearly labelled with names? This makes returning them much easier. In Jolly Phonics this week we are looking at the letters ‘r’ and ‘m’. We are continuing to do lots of thinking and planning about sentences that we can write and are working hard on finishing our first piece of writing about ‘making Vegemite sandwiches’. In mathematics we are looking at Position; we are learning to describe position and give and follow simple directions. Next Monday 4th April K/1 B will be walking to the Wentworth Military Collection on Sandwych Street with Kinder G. This is a great lead up to ANZAC Day. On the last Friday of term we will be holding our ANZAC Day Service at 11am. We are looking for donations of flowers to place at the school memorial. Next Tuesday 5th April our Year One students will be joining 1/2R for a session in the Kitchen Garden, They begin with a garden session at 9.30am followed by the kitchen component at 10.10am and they are looking for helpers who are able to assist on the day. If you can spare an hour or two of your time it would be greatly appreciated. Reminders:  Donations of fruit/veg welcome for our daily fruit break. Donations can be left at the front office in the mornings.  Library borrowing for K/1B is Tuesday. Children must bring a bag to be able to borrow books. Keep Smiling! Leanne Byrnes Page 8

YEAR 1/2R NEWS Welcome to the 2nd last week of the term, I hope that everyone had a wonderful Easter break and the Easter Bunny found you all! Thank you to everyone who donated craft items and to those parents who came in and helped with the hat construction. It was very much appreciated! All the creations were beautiful and colourful. There are a large number of photos from the celebrations and parade on the school Facebook page. I am back on track this week and feeling much better so it is business as usual this week. We will be focusing our learning on ANZAC Day for the next two weeks. The students will be listening to stories, creating artworks and writing about ANZAC Day. We will also be visiting the Military Museum next Monday as a part of our focus on ANZAC Day. On Tuesday, we will be participating in the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program. We will be in the garden from 9:25am to 10:10am, then into to kitchen for some yummy cooking. Any parents/ carers who would like to come and help in the kitchen and garden are more than welcome. Please let me know if you are interested. We have started training for the school cross country carnival and I hope that this training continues over the holidays. Reminders: * Homereaders are changed on Tuesdays and Fridays * Fruit donations are always appreciated * Kitchen/Garden on Tuesday Have a great week! Cheers Natalie Rees YEAR 1/2S NEWS I hope everyone had a lovely extended weekend and Easter Bunny delivered you some yummy chocolate. It was wonderful to see a big crowd at the this year. MISS POMROY’S CLASS NEWS It’s lovely to see all of the students back to school, after the Easter long weekend, in one piece. We were lucky enough to have a visit from the Easter bunny on Thursday afternoon, who hid chocolate eggs throughout the classroom to the delight of the students! Yesterday we participated in our last Kitchen Garden session for this term. We were lucky enough to have three extra helpers yesterday. Thank you Craig, Julieanne and Beryl! Many hands make light work and we successfully filled two garden beds with soil ready for seedlings next term. We are continuing to work on our fitness by focusing on cross country training for the carnival next term. It will be fantastic to hear about students practicing after school hours and on the weekend. Keep up the excellent effort with home reading. Don’t forget to record nightly home reading in student diaries. I look forward to writing out Home Reading Awards for the Monday morning assembly. Reminders:  Diaries to be handed in each Friday.  Swan Hill Excursion notes need to be returned.  We are looking for donations of fruit and veg for Crunch n Sip.  Library borrowing will occur on Monday.  Movie tickets, for Friday night, can be purchase from the front office before Friday. Keep smiling, Yvette Pomroy

MISS SUCKLING’S CLASS NEWS Welcome back from the Easter long weekend, I have heard some great stories, fun was had all around. Not long now till the end of term holidays begin, only two more weeks, so hang in there.

Today we had our last kitchen garden for the term. We have cooked some fantastic meals and all students had a great time cooking them. Thank you again to our volunteers that come in each fortnight, hopefully we will see you all next term.

I have had many students reaching their 25 nights of reading. Make sure your child/children are recording all of their reading in their diaries so they can receive an award for their efforts.

On Monday we will be going with our buddy class to visit the Military Museum. We will be given a tour of the Museum to commemorate Anzac Day.

Reminders:

 Diaries checked every Friday  Fruit donations for crunch and sip

Have a lovely week,

Ms Suckling

Page 10 MISS MARZIE’S CLASS NEWS What a terrific effort all the students put in last Thursday with their Easter hat entries. Congratulations to all for the colourful display. We hope you all had a restful break during the Easter weekend and are ready to finish the last two weeks of Term 1 with a bang. With Easter already behind us, the class will be focusing on the theme ANZAC. Next Monday our class, will be walking down to the Wentworth Military Collection on Sandwych Street leaving school at around 9.30am. Please read the item regarding every class’s participation in this excursion for more information. As mentioned in last week’s newsletter, the Memorial Box from the Australian War Memorial has arrived and has some very interesting memorabilia. The class are enjoying the outfits provided for them to try on. Please remember to ask your child/children about this, also if you have any wartime memorabilia and are willing to send it in for discussion it would be very much appreciated. Yesterday those students who were at school took home a copy of their Personal Learning Plan (PLP) – Goal Setting form to monitor their progress. Those students who also have a PLSP (they know who they are) also took a copy home. Reminders:  Diaries checked Friday.  Lexia from home, my email address to start if off: [email protected] Enjoy the short week, Sandra Marziano YEAR 6H CLASS NEWS I hope that you all had an eggsellent Easter break, I know I certainly enjoyed my family time and the chocolate. We have two weeks left before the break and I believe daylight savings ends next weekend. A big thankyou to everyone who was able to sell tickets for the Canberra Excursion fundraising Easter raffle. So many families sold multiple books which is fantastic. This week we have begun our practice for the cross country which will be held in Term 2. Our aim is to slowly build up the number of laps we can jog without walking. The students made their first great effort with most students being able to complete one lap without walking. In the classroom each day the students complete an allocated amount of time on the program Lexia. Lexia is a literacy program that focuses on spelling, comprehension, phonics and reading. The program places students where they need to be and only progresses as their skills develop. Students are allowed access to the program at home; however I am asking that parents/carers do not assist the students with the program. I am asking this because if a student is stuck on an area the program will alert me and I can then provide guided lessons that will enhance the student’s knowledge. Please if you have any questions about the Lexia program or any other area of learning feel free to contact me at school. Reminders:  The first instalment of Canberra excursion money is due now.  We are looking for donations of fruit and veg for Crunch n Sip.  Library borrowing will occur Thursday.  Movie tickets can be purchase from the front office before Friday.

Have a great short week everyone.
