What is happening?

MODERATE FLOODING IS OCCURRING AT

The Barwon River at Mungindi peaked at 7.2 metres early Friday with major flooding. The main flood peak from Mungindi has arrived at Mogil Mogil.

Due to lower than expected contribution of floodwaters from the , Gil Gil Creek and Boomi River, renewed river level rises at Mogil Mogil are no longer expected.

Therefore, the observed flood peak at Mogil Mogil on 01/04/2021 of 8.3 metres, becomes the main flood peak affecting flooding conditions along the Barwon and Darling downstream of Mogil Mogil.

The Barwon River at Collarenebri peaked around 7.11 metres on Saturday [03/04/2021] with minor flooding. River levels are falling at Collarenebri and no renewed river level rises are expected.

The Barwon River at Walgett peaked at around 11.92 metres on Wednesday [07/04/2021] with near moderate flooding. River levels are falling at Walgett and no renewed river level rises are expected.

The main flood peak from Walgett is now passing the Boorooma gauge, which is likely to cause moderate flooding at Brewarrina in mid-April. What we are expecting:

Barwon River at Mungindi

Moderate flooding is easing at Mungindi.

The Barwon River at Mungindi is currently at 6.81 metres and falling with moderate flooding.

River levels at Mungindi are expected to fall below the moderate flood level later Sunday.

The Carnarvon Highway remains closed to all traffic between Mungindi and Moree with significant water across the road and expected damage to the road surface.

The Barwon River at Mogil Mogil is currently at 7.83 metres and falling with minor flooding.

River levels at Mogil Mogil are expected to remain above the minor flood level until Wednesday [14/04/2021].

Barwon River at Collarenebri

The Barwon River at Collarenebri is currently at 6.15 metres and falling, with minor flooding.

River levels at Collarenebri are expected to fall below the minor flood level late Monday.

The Gwydir Highway between Collarenebri and Moree remains closed.

Gundabloui Road between Collarenebri and Mungindi remains closed.

Barwon River at Walgett

The Barwon River at Walgett is currently at 11.46 metres and falling, with minor flooding.

River levels at Walgett are expected to remain above the minor flood level until Thursday [22/04/2021].

Kamilaroi Highway west of Walgett remains closed between Walgett and Dangar Bridge.

Brewon Road is currently closed near intersection of Kamilaroi Highway.

Wee Waa Street is closed east of Walgett.

Barwon River at Brewarrina

The Barwon River at Brewarrina is currently at 5.58 metres and rising.

River levels at Brewarrina are likely to exceed the minor flood level (6.40m) during Tuesday [13/04/2021].

The Barwon River at Brewarrina may reach the moderate flood level (7.00m) around Sunday [18/04/2021].

Predictions will be updated once upstream peaks are observed.

Floodwater may impact the Brewarrina - Bourke road (SH29) between Brewarrina and West Brewarrina as the main flood peak approaches. What you need to do: • Stay up to date with information. Listen to flood warnings and follow advice on how to protect yourself, family and property. • Do not allow children to play in floodwaters, especially stormwater drains and creeks. • Monitor conditions. Stay out of rising water, seek refuge in the highest available place. • Be aware of snakes and spiders seeking refuge. • Farmers and landholders are advised to relocate livestock, stock feed, chemical and farm equipment to higher ground. • Motorists are advised to take extreme care as water will be flowing across causeways and local roads. • Do not drive through floodwater as floodwaters may be deep, fast flowing and contain debris and is a major cause of flood related deaths.
