Dear Advertiser

Dear Advertiser, In the current coronavirus crisis, we would like to thank you for your continued support of The Waylander in what we know is a very challenging time for all businesses. We would like to reassure you that the magazine will continue to be produced and delivered each month to almost 900 households. It is non profit-making but relies entirely on advertising revenue to cover the printing costs. It is run on an entirely voluntary basis for the benefit of local residents and is an important means of local communication, especially at present. Hopefully normal life will resume in the not too distant future – in the meantime, we trust that you all stay safe and well. With very best wishes from all at The Waylander. Karen

3 VICAR’S LETTER

Spring There is no doubt that my favourite season is Spring and whatever is happening in the world I think that it is important to thank God for this time of year. Along with so many people in our communities my wife and I have been in isolation, but it has not stopped our contact with the outside world. Having meetings on Zoom and contacts on our mobiles, endless telephone calls and lots of letters being sent out, has kept us very busy. Many people are saying that they are using this time for reflection and to be thankful. All our prayers are with those working in the NHS and also carers whether in Thorp House or in the community. Having two doctors in my family and one who is the consultant for St. Christopher Hospice in south London dealing with so many virus cases at the moment, the weekly clapping outside of our house has meant a lot. This spring will be a time to stay safe, look to the future, make plans and keep busy. The Bishop of Lynn has asked me to stay as Priest-in-Charge until the coronavirus has run its course and I have agreed to do that. Also I would like to have a service of thanksgiving for the Group of Parishes when this virus is over. Also if sadly you have had a funeral service during this time of closed churches I will arrange for a service of thanksgiving, with no fees payable, just to make up for the time when churches were closed. In the meantime if you wish to be part of our weekly service you may go on line and following the readings and short sermon and take part in the prayers:- www.waylandermagazine.org/wayland-benefice- church-page

May God bless you and keep you safe. Adrian Bell

5 CASTON COMMENT

Hello everyone in Caston. Did you know we had our very own Banksy living in our village? At Easter a beautiful picture of Holy Cross Church painted on a tile was left on the church wall by the gate. I suspect it was part of the Rocks Group. Occasionally you will see these painted stones around our village and they are often removed and re-hidden. It is a bit like finding treasure. Well in our case at Holy Cross – it is. We are going to put it in the church for safe-keeping and at a later date will auction it for the NHS. We will keep you posted – meanwhile enjoy the picture. Some good news for Holy Cross. We have received two grants for our toilet project – thanks to Graham Penfold for steering this project.
