Florence Avenue Interchange
FACT SHEET The Project The Santa Ana Freeway (Interstate 5) Florence Avenue Interchange Project, in the cities of Santa Fe Springs and Downey, will widen I-5 to add one High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV), or carpool lane, and one general purpose lane in each direction from Orr and Day Road overhead crossing to the San Gabriel River Freeway (Interstate 605) bridge, a one-mile distance. The project also includes widening structures at Florence Avenue and Orr and Day Road, shoulder widening, median barriers, new on-ramp and off-ramp designs and reconfiguring the Florence Avenue Interchange. The Florence Avenue overcrossing will be widened from four lanes to six lanes and longer to accommodate a wider freeway.
Summary The Florence Avenue Interchange Project is the fifth of six freeway-widening projects to begin construction Project Costs from the Los Angeles County/Orange County line to $ 215.3 million, allocated from the following: I-605. All six I-5 South Corridor Improvement Projects -Proposition 1B State Transportation Bond (2006) include freeway widening and improvements along the -Transportation Cooperative Research Program (TCRP): 6.7 mile corridor at Alondra Boulevard, Rosecrans/ $428,000. Bloomfield/Shoemaker avenues, Imperial Highway/ -State Transportation Improvement Program (STIP): Pioneer Boulevard, Carmenita Road, and Valley View $12.6 million Avenue. The Valley View Avenue Interchange Project is -Regional Transportation Improvement Program(RTIP) the last of the six segments to begin construction by $42.1 million mid-2014. -State Highway Operations and Protection Program: $7.0 million Benefits -Los Angeles County (METRO-CMAQ & RSTP): $111.6 million The project will improve the overall traffic circulation -Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Improvement on the I-5 South Corridor and on its interchanges and Program (CMAQ) ramps, thereby increasing safety and reducing -Regional Surface Transportation Program congestion. The new Florence Avenue Interchange will -Los Angeles County (METRO-Proposition C): $41.5 million better accommodate future projected traffic demands and added capacity.
