CHARGE) Bhubaneswar Tourism & Culture, Odisha 05.07.2015 MESSAGE I am glad to know that Harekrushna Mahtab State Library, being at the apex of Odisha State Public Library System, is going to publish the 1st Revised and Enlarged Edition of “Publishers’ Directory of Odisha” which is the first of its kind. It is indeed a scholarly and praiseworthy work. On the eve of its publication, I would like to congratulate the authorities, compilers and the staff members of Harekrushna Mahtab State Library for their sincere endeavour towards accomplishment of such type of noble job. Like ‘Odisha State Bibliography’ which is regularly being published by the Library to let the people know about the recorded knowledge (Books) produced by the State within a given period, this work, on the other hand, is intended to serve as an effective tool to explore the field of Book Production and Book Market in Odisha. I do hope that this work must cater to the need of authors, publishers, intellectuals and above all the reading public of Odisha. I wish Harekrushna Mahtab State Library should continue such type of project activities further. (Ashok Chandra Panda) i PREFACE The advent of computer has given rise to proliferation of publishing units in our society, a new scenario in the field of book market that could be witnessed never before 1990s. Bringing out publication is no more a hard task. Bibliographic records reveal that book production in Odisha has tremendously gone up with manifold increase. The Harekrushna Mahtab State Library being at the apex of the State Public Library System of Odisha is continuing its endeavour to compile and publish ‘Odisha State Bibliography’ in order to let the people know about the recorded knowledge (books) produced by the State in a given period. By bringing out this 1st Revised and Enlarged Edition of “Publishers’Directory of Odisha” an attempt has been made to let the people know about the Publishing Units, the prime mover of Book Production of the State in a handy volume. This work covers both corporate names and personal names of publishers appearing in the books published in Odisha to date and arranges them in dictionary order. In the case of corporate names, entries have been made in upper case, whereas of personal names (as it is understood that they may or may not have publishing units, but for some reason or other, their names appear as publishers in certain books by personal capacity), rendering of entries have been made in lower case by Surname preceding Forename as treated in usual library practice. For better reference we have provided ‘See’ and ‘See also’ references at places. In addition, a district-wise list of such publishers has also been provided in the last part of the book to serve the purpose of local interest. Anyone interested to know publishers of a particular district can find such names from the District-wise list under the name of the concerned district and then refer to the Dictionary part for details. We hope that the work shall be of immense help to the people of Odisha. We shall appreciate suggestions, if any, from all quarters towards improvemets of this work. Acknowledgements: With sincere gratitude we acknowledge contributions of revered authors / publishers / printers of our State who have been dutifully depositing two copies each of their publications with the Harekrushna Mahtab State Library under the provisions of the Press and Regristration of Books Act, 1867, out of which compilation of this work has been possible. I would also like to thank many other people whose names do not appear on the team credits, but who have made a significant contribution towards publication of this work. Special mention may be made of Sri Sushil Kumar Das, Ex-Director Culture & Director, HKM State Library; Sri Abakash Jena, Former Librarian, Central Reference Library, Kolkata; Dr. B.D. Panda, Ex-Dy. Director, Culture & O.I.C., HKM State Library; Staff Members of HKM State Library, Bhubaneswar and finally, The Director and Staff of The Govt.
