Cringleford CE VA Primary School

Summer Term 2020-2021

Newsletter 31

25th June 2021

Dear Parents / Carers,

If some of the older children in the school are a bit more tired than usual this weekend, it could be because of the energy exerted during the two days of sports events at the UEA (Monday and Thursday).

It was so good to be able to return to the track and enjoy the excellent athletics facilities there. The children were a credit to the school, cheering one another on and participating fully in lots of events.

I am extremely grateful to Mr Donovan, Miss Fish and Mr Colbeck for organising both days so efficiently. Congratulations go to the Yellow team for gaining most points overall.

New classes in September

The table below shows where each class will be moving to in September and the staffing arrangements. We are really pleased that Mr Josh Hanson will be joining the Year 2 team during Mrs Reynolds’ maternity leave. Towards the end of term the children will have the chance to meet their new class teacher(s) and we will also be posting a short video from each teacher which will be uploaded to the school website.

Zoe – Grade 3 flute George, Luke and Abigail – Grade 1 piano We may have places available for your child to learn cello, guitar or ukulele from September 2021. If your child is interested, please email Secretary@cringleford..sch.uk. Love my planet week

Year 2 Kingfishers and Nightingales were excited to participate in lots of fun and engaging learning activities which focused on finding out about why our planet needs our help and how to help!

We learnt about plastic pollution and made some bird feeders from old plastic bottles and felt tips pens. We thought about how to reduce, reuse and recycle what we have. We also enjoyed looking at where food comes from and thinking about the potential pollution caused by getting the food to us – we enjoyed a delicious sustainable meal with foods from Norfolk, Cambridgeshire, Suffolk and Spain.

We also listened to a very informative talk from a wildlife expert at Norfolk County Council about the wildlife in our local area. We then went to the Willow woods on a scavenger hunt and found plenty of wildlife and plants.

Year 4

On Wednesday 9th June, both Year 4 classes did a River Walk along the from Cringleford Bridge to the footbridge near UEA Broad.

We really enjoyed looking for wildlife which lives in this habitat, having been inspired by watching a fascinating video made by a member of Norfolk County Council’s Biodiversity Team.

The River Walk helped us all to appreciate how amazing our planet is even on our doorstep!

Safety measures In the last newsletter I mentioned that we were hoping to be able to extend our bubble sizes to year group bubbles so the children could have the opportunity to mix more at lunchtimes and break times. Since then, government guidance indicated that keeping bubbles as small as possible was still the best option, so we are reverting to class bubbles for the time being. You may well be aware that local high schools have been impacted by positive cases and this has resulted in whole year groups being sent home to self-isolate. This is the last thing we want as we approach the last few weeks of term. Please support us by being extra vigilant and not sending in your child if they are showing any symptoms. Please also consider making use of the freely available asymptomatic lateral flow tests for families. Unfortunately, all families need to continue to have contingency plans in place in case the school received notification of a positive case. Below is a letter from the Local Authority also explaining how the continuation of the safety guidance in schools is impacting on summer term events etc. Ongoing COVID restrictions in school – Summer term activities – letter form the Local Authority Dear Parents and Carers As you will know by now the government has decided not to proceed to Step 4 of the Roadmap out of lockdown in June. Only when it sure that it is safe to move from one step on the roadmap to the next will the final decision be made to do this. It is expected that will move to Step 4 on 19 July 2021, although the data will be reviewed after 2 weeks in case the risks have reduced. The government will continue to monitor the data and the move to Step 4 will be confirmed one week in advance. The Government has confirmed that the current system of controls should continue to be implemented in schools. Therefore we are encouraging staff, and students, where applicable, to continue to test twice weekly and student bubbles, where they exist, should stay in place. Although many of us were looking forward to the further lifting of restrictions, we must carry on with 'hands, face, space, & fresh-air' and comply with the COVID-Secure measures that must remain in place in school. We recognise that this may cause disappointment as it will impact our usual summer term activities, however it is important that we follow the guidance to help our school community to protect themselves, the wider community and help us all get back to a more normal way of life. Thank you for your continued support - The Local Authority Covid Vaccinations Norfolk County Council have asked us to contact parents/carers due to concern about the relatively slow take up of vaccinations amongst those people aged under 40. Please see the attached message for further information.

Free School Meal vouchers for summer holidays

Support has been extended to cover the Summer 2021 holiday for pupils eligible for means- tested Free School Meals. Norfolk County Council has received a further Covid grant from DWP and is able to continue to work with food voucher company, Edenred, to provide support for all families with children eligible for means-tested Free School Meals. All eligible families are encouraged to register for free school meals as this will enable them to qualify for these vouchers as well as the other support available. Please follow the below link: www.norfolk.gov.uk/education-and-learning/schools/school-meals-and-milk Please note that the free school meal vouchers will only be available to those who are eligible and have registered. Families in hardship and needing wider support In addition to the offer of FSM vouchers for eligible families, there is support available for families who are facing hardship and need support. Anyone experiencing hardship may be able to receive support through the Norfolk Assistance Scheme (NAS), which may be able to provide support for food, fuel, clothes and other essential household items to families experiencing hardship. Wider support from a range of partners can then also be made available with NAS working alongside the Children's Services Community and Partnerships service. Families may get in touch with NAS via their dedicated website which includes an online application form on the Norfolk County Council website or if they cannot access the internet, they can call 0344 800 8020. Class Photographs Kittle photographic QR codes have been sent home with your child this week for the recent class photographs (Swallow class QR codes will be sent home on Monday). Reminders

 Once the children are on the school premises, they should get off scooters and bikes and store them sensibly.  Please allow extra time in the morning if you know your journey is likely to be affected by the current roadworks.  Please consider adding authorised people who can collect your children or speak to your child’s class teacher in the morning at drop off time, otherwise classes get disrupted from messages from the office. We understand that emergencies can crop up during the day.  A parent wished for the school to remind all drivers about the need to drive safely around the school having witnessed more than one driver mount the pavement recently.

I hope you all have a lovely weekend.

Kind regards

Neil Henery
