You will be helped along the way if you require assistance. As you know our present treasurer is not running, and the club cannot proceed without a treasurer. All the committee is standing down and their positions will become vacant, so please attend the A.G.M. with an open mind and help with the.future of your club. Also next month is our Show and Shine. Please get your entry forms in as early as possible as there is a lot to do, and trophies need to be arranged, etc. We will also need a few volunteers on the day so please make yourself known to the committee. We have a few members on the sick list and we wish them all well. Dave is one on the sick list and even though he could not make it to the Gosford Car Museum run, he and Sandy organised it as well as lunch, and sent the fi nal numbers to the relative people making it a most successful day. Thanks Dave and Sandy. Also on that run was another of our members who this time last year was on the list. Great to see the Sloanes and their lovely C3. The day out for the Special Olympics is on again, this year it is known as ROAR and SOAR. We have six members down already, however we need more. It is a great day out and your chance to give back to young people who do their best for you and your country. Just go to the Roar and Soar website and nominate yourself under team Corvette - you won't regret it.

Don't forget to put the10th December aside for our Christmas party at The Oaks. Plenty of off-street parking and plenty of room.

Corvette Trivia: A 2014 C7 Corvette can travel at 53 MPH in reverse (which is great if you're in a movie car chase). At this speed the low gearing and the rev limiter stop you from exceeding 53mph.

After falling asleep in his friend's car, the singer PRINCE awoke and wrote the song "Little Red Corvette", which became his fi rst hit song, Years later Chevrolet capitalised on this and created a billboard sign that spread across the USA "They don't write songs about Volvos" (it had a picture of a 63 red Corvette).

Vahe Gheghenozian We hope to have them ready for our show and shine in October. The banners can be made in most Corvette Vicki Nelson colours and will be the same as the one displayed below. Payment can be made upon collection at the show and shine, at the club meeting or by direct deposit into our club account. Hi to all, August was host to two well attended club runs, CMC Day at Eastern Creek and the Car Museum at Gosford with the weather being excellent for the members who attended. There was also the Penrith Regatta breakfast run that was held at the end of July - another beautiful sunny day attended by ten vettes, a monaro and a trolley or two and all who went had a nice morning out. I loaned my '82 to our newest member Luke Duggan for the Penrith run and who later that week drove to S.A. to pick up his fi rst Corvette, a white '88 C4. We made our own little convoy to Penrith and back through Wallacia, it's a real buzz to see your own cars cruising along, so much so I no longer want to sell it! (Don't tell Moni.) Photos of the day on the forum and this magazine. Again, the Shannons Classic and CMC Day was just like last year, a spectacular event. Around twenty fi ve Corvettes were in attendance this year and over half were participating in the "Come Ride with Me" event and everyone who participated had an amazing experience. Check out the photos of the event. One particular photo is of a lady who you couldn't wipe the smile off her face as we cruised down the straight at 230kph in the Grandsport. All up taking a total of four pas- sengers, I did around twenty laps of the track, WHAT A BUZZ !!. Jeff Wilson took my C5 and Chris Jurgeit my C6 both of whom said their passengers were thrilled and Charlie Micallef took one of his passengers on the ultimate washing machine ride which included the spin cycle. The CMC, who have organised this event in the past is now looking for car a club to help in conjunction with the CMC with its co-ordina- tion for next year's classic and because of our successful participa- tion with our Corvettes in this year's event, I've been asked if our club is interested in helping them next year. I will be putting this to the new incoming committee for our club's involvement with the CMC. There is a possibility where there will be an arrangement where we will get dedicated track time to take passengers without other cars on the track. Our other run was to the Car Museum at Gosford and it was another great day with around twenty six Corvettes in attendance. After the museum we were off to the Waterfall Cafe for lunch. It was a great sight and sound as twenty two Corvettes thundered up the hill towards the cafe. Check out the photos. Unfortunately David and Sandy Jarrett who organised the run could not attend as Dave has been unwell of late, so get well soon Dave. As you are all aware, the AGM is next month and I will be stepping down as a run rep. Participating as a rep for just over two and a half years I think my term is over and it is time for some new people and a fresh approach be undertaken. So please give consideration to becoming an area rep to which I will propose to the new committee that two people from each quadrant, the NE, NW, SE & SW areas to stand for the positions. This will allow the runs to be shared and make it less of a burden on just one person. I believe this will also showcase some unknown venues that are in those local areas.

Best Wishes, Pete & Moni Vette & Wild. 6. Notice of 2017 Annual General Meeting To be held on Tuesday 4th October 2017 at 8pm at New Brighton golf club, Nuwarra Road, Moorebank

So book your accommodation, watch out for entry details and get ready for a great weekend. Please direct any enquiries to Peter Brookes or Gary Nelson. Sunday, August 27, 2017 Every championship season in every sport has NNO.O. 3 CCORVETTEORVETTE TTEAMEAM TTAKESAKES CCHARGEHARGE OOFF at least one “turning point.” It’s the moment a championship-winning team looks back on and WWEATHERTECHEATHERTECH CHAMPIONSHIPCHAMPIONSHIP GTLMGTLM TTITLEITLE RRACEACE identifi es the time when the championship was WWITHITH MMICHELINICHELIN GGTT CCHALLENGEHALLENGE VVICTORYICTORY fi rmly in their grasp. There’s still plenty of racing left in the 2017 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship – two races that total 12 hours and 40 minutes of competition to be exact – but Sunday’s Michelin GT Challenge at Virginia International Raceway could very well be that turning point for the No. 3 Corvette Racing Chevrolet Corvette C7.R team and co-drivers Jan Magnussen and Antonio Garcia. Magnussen and Garcia scored a somewhat unlikely win – their third of the season – and expanded their lead in the GT Le Mans (GTLM) point standings from eight points over No. 66 Ford GT teammates Dirk Mueller and Joey Hand to 16 points over No. 25 BMW co- drivers Alexander Sims and Bill Auberlen. They did it through masterful strategy and a little bit of luck. Magnussen started the race from sixth, but moved into the top fi ve on the opening lap of the race and got all the way to third before pitting 49 minutes into the two-hour, 40-minute race to turn the car over to Garcia. The Spaniard acknowledged after the race that the team focused on conserving fuel for much of his closing double stint. At the same time, however, he also faced a stiff challenge from Giancarlo Fisichella in the No. 62 Risi Competizione 488 GTE and Mueller in the No. 66 Ford Chip Ganassi Racing entry. “I didn't know how much fuel they were saving, so I didn't know what pace we were doing,” Garcia said. “I think the key was stopping one or two laps later than the Ferrari and the Ford, because I had really clear laps from those two. That made me so close to the Ferrari and especially to be ahead of the Ford coming out of the pits. Ninety percent of the race was that pit stop and being able to get in front of them.” That was a battle for second, though, as Sims was well up the road in the No. 25 BMW Team RLL machine after combining with Auberlen to dominate most of the race. Garcia and the Corvette team’s fuel conservation tactics ultimately paid off, though, because Sims was forced to pit from the lead with less than 15 minutes remaining. That stop promoted the Corvette into the lead and Garcia brought it home the rest of the way to win by 12.031 seconds over the No. 67 Ford Chip Ganassi Racing Ford GT shared by Richard Westbrook and Ryan Briscoe. The race was run without a full-course caution. It was the fi rst win for Magnussen and Garcia since May’s Advance Auto Parts Sportscar Showdown at . They also won in March at the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring Fueled by Fresh From Florida. For Magnussen, it was his 47th IMSA victory encompassing WeatherTech Championship, GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series and American Le Mans Series competition. It was Garcia’s 17th IMSA win.

The runner-up result for Briscoe and Westbrook moved them into a tie for third in the GTLM standings with their Ford Chip Ganassi Rac- ing teammates, Hand and Mueller and just one point behind 2nd-place Sims and Auberlen. Fisichella and co-driver came home third in the fi rst WeatherTech Championship race for the Houston-based Risi team since May at Circuit of The Americas. The No. 66 team was poised for a podium result before a late-race incident between Mueller and Tommy Milner in the No. 4 Corvette sent both cars off course. The No. 66 team recovered to fi nish fi fth, one spot behind Sims and Auberlen after the No. 25 BMW’s late pit stop dropped them to fourth. Sims and Auberlen combined to lead for most of the fi rst two-and-a-half hours. Next up for the Weather Tech Championship is the America’s Tire 250, part of the Continental Tire Monterey Grand Prix at Mazda Raceway on Sunday, 24th Sept. The two-hour, 40-minute race will feature the Prototype (P), GTLM and GTD classes. Enjoy the drive ... Pit Lane Reporter

With the Corvette assembly plant shut down for three months for a major makeover and the factory tours nixed even longer for the next 18 months, the Internet rumour mill has been ablaze with talk about what’s really going on behind the closed doors in Bowling Green.

While it’s probably best to take any news that isn’t offi cially released from General Motors with a grain of salt, the website wheelsmag.com.au is reporting that it’s a “nailed-on cert” that the next generation C8 Corvette will be sold in right-hand drive form in Australia and will become the halo car for the brand.

“We’ve seen the pictures and we’ve spoken to Holden staff,” the website says. Which pictures they didn’t say. But Wheels does say they interviewed Holden chassis engineer Rob Trubiani and communication chief Sean Poppitt, who told them that the new Commodore VXR won’t be the top dog in the Holden food chain. Instead, after talking to the two men, Wheels speculates that the Corvette and Camaro will fi ll that role in the Land Down Under. “Don’t forget we still have the sports car, the much talked about sports car – or cars – coming to the market which will really fi ll that performance halo for us,” Poppitt told Wheels, declining to offer any more information about which car or cars that would be. Wheels believes that the current C7 Corvette is “just leaving too much money on the table” with its low base price of USD $55,000. They think the C8 Corvette might up the ante to more than $100,000 in the U.S., adding: “Bring that to Australia and suddenly t’s up against some serious competition at around A$200,000.” Photo Credit: Topspeed.com Wheels believes it’s “certain” that the C8 will be the most technologically advanced Vette yet, which is a foregone conclusion in our opinion based on the multiple advancements made in each of the seven previous generations. They also think the C8 “is likely to trade sheer muscle for lighter weight, greater agility, and higher effi ciency” and conclude that it’s “a given” it will have an aluminum chassis with carbon panels and a platform engineered to accept future electrifi cation. Wheels notes that just when the C8 will be revealed has yet to be confi rmed, “but we wouldn’t bet against it being the big draw- card for the 2018 Detroit show in January, with cars fi nding US customers later that year” and Australian buyers getting the mid-engined monster in 2019. Guess we’ll just have to wait and see. Personally, we’re glad to see General Motors keeping the C8 and a possible mid-engine Cor- vette hush-hush (not to mention any offi cial information about the 2018 ZR1). We always thought too much information about the C7 was given away by Chevy before it ever went on sale (i.e., the 1.13.13 unveiling a good Source: six or so months before the car wheelsmag.com.au even went on sale) – can you imagine the intrigue that would have boiled over if the C7 had been unveiled a month before it was actually available to folks like me and you? The excitement would have been unreal.

20 Final Corvette Rolls Off the Old Assembly Line as Retooling Begins

The fi nal 2018 Corvette to be built on what we will now refer to as the Corvette factory’s “old assembly line” was completed on Thurs- day afternoon. It was a 2018 Non-Z51 Corvette Stingray Coupe in Torch Red. The dismantling of the assembly line began almost immediately after the Stingray was driven off the line. Our understanding is that there will be some offi cial photos to mark the occasion. Much of the existing assembly line process dates back to 1997 and the fi fth generation Corvette, although some components go back to the founding of the former Chrysler air conditioning plant when it started building Corvettes in the early 1980s.

Over the next thirteen weeks, the old line will be dismantled and a new assembly line process utilizing fl exible assembly methods will be put into place. For a really good primer on the changes coming to the Corvette assembly plant, watch our video of BGAP’s general manager Kai Spande at the 2017 NCM Bash. The assembly line will be rerouted to move the exterior panel assembly areas closer to the new paint shop, as well as moving the panel assembly towards the end of the line so as to lessen the potential for damage and increase build quality. Another aspect of the new assembly line once it restarts will be to slow it down, from 18 cars per hour to 12 cars so the workers will have a little more time per car to ensure quality. A friend tells us that most plant employees will return to work in November. We are also reminded that of the quality assurance (QA) process that the new Stingrays went through back in 2013 and we believe that once the plant starts production, there will be a series of extensive quality tests on the 2018 Corvettes that come off the new assembly line. That could mean the fi rst 2018 Corvettes off the new line won’t begin showing up to dealers until the end of November or early December.

The assembly line upgrades, along with the start-up and integration of the new paint facility, mark the beginning of some exciting times for Corvette owners. While much specula- tion revolves around the future of the Corvette, know that once the plant restarts later, the changes should further unlock the potential of the men and women who build our dream cars and the focus on quality will impact today’s Corvette almost imme- diately.

21 Chevrolet Corvette badge cleared for Australia, with strings attached By Barry Park Aug 10, 2017 A MAJOR roadblock potentially stopping a future right- hand-drive version of the Chevrolet Corvette from coming to Australia appears to have been cleared – General Motors now has trademark approval for its badge. However, it could mean any future version of the potentially mid-engined C8 Corvette, due on sale here from 2019, may need to wear a version of the badge that won’t feature on versions of the two-door coupe sold anywhere else in the world. It’s been a long, expensive three-year fi ght to have the badge approved. IP Australia, the government body overseeing the approval of trademarks here, has fi nally given its blessing for General Motors to use the double- fl ag emblem showing a stylised Chevrolet bowtie – the reason behind why the trademark battle has waged for so long. GM’s application was rejected on four separate occasions. IP Australia initially rejected GM’s application because the yellow- on-red bowtie used in the badge as part of a 2014 redesign too closely resembles the Red Cross, a symbol protected under interna- tional law and with deep ties to Australia’s wartime history. However, as part of its approval, IP Australia has spelled out that the badge for the V6-engined Ford GT fi ghter will need to change if it is to come here.

“It is a condition of registration that, in use, the cross device contained within the trade mark will be rendered in colours other than red on a white or silver background, or white or silver on a red background,” it said. Alternatively, the Australian ruling could sway GM to make changes to the Corvette badge to minimise the chance that any other nations that respect the protection extended to the Red Cross symbol under the Geneva Convention taking similar offence to the bowtie. Holden declined to comment on what the trademark approval would mean for plans to bring the bent-eight Corvette to Australia as a $150K-plus hero in its post-V8 Commodore performance line-up – one likely to include an all-wheel-drive, V6-engined Commodore VXR range-topper. GM has invested more than $A300 million to update its Bowling Green plant in the US where the current C7 Corvette is built. The Corvette is the world’s longest-running, continuously produced passenger car with more than 1.6 million produced. Given the expense of the mid-engined Corvette – GM has trademarked “Zora” here in a nod to engineer Zora Arkus-Duntov, the so-called ‘father of the Corvette’, who fought for a mid-engined version of the muscle car, but only ever built concepts of it – GM is believed to be working on a plan to sell the front-engined C7 Corvette alongside the C8 one. Speeding is the largest behavioural road safety issue in NSW, and contributes to about 40 per cent of road fatalities – about 150 deaths and more than 4,000 injuries each year. Research has shown even fi ve km/h over a 60 km/h speed limit doubles the risk of death or injury on our roads.

On the Great Western Highway at Mount Victoria a fi xed speed camera has been installed, and this location is also one enforcement site for an average speed (point-to-point) enforcement length that spans the Great Western Highway between Mount Victoria and Lithgow.

The fi xed speed camera enforces speeding at this particular location, whereas the average speed (point to point) camera measures the average speed of heavy vehicles between two detection points. Average speed cameras only enforce heavy vehicle speeding.

All new speed cameras are clearly marked by advance warning signs and a warning letter period applies when the cameras are turned on. No speed cameras are activated before warning signage is put in place. This provides drivers with fair warning of the enforcement and a reminder to check their speed in a high risk location.

Added to these are "Red Light Cameras" which are triggered if you cross the detection point at a TLC intersection after the red signal. Most of these have now been upgraded to incude a "speed" function. I'm not fully aware at this time if the speed function is activated full time or only after the "redlight camera" is fi red. At the RMS/Police night held at Wetherill Park we saw pursuit car mounted Radar Controlled Cameras and RMS vehicles with mobile RCC installed.

There has been conjecture about Lasar used by Police on the side of the road, saying the Laser is absorbed or defl ected by the cars Fibreglass body. At this 95 Hunter St, Hornsby 2077 point I would not like to place any bets, remember they aim the laser at your car, “Personal Care With Every Repair” especially at the number plate, maybe if it is angled down any laser refl ection Over 30 years experience could be defeated. General mechanical repairs, One thing this has cleared up for me is the "Average Speed" cameras, I thought General & Log Book servicing, these were for heavy vehicles only, but was always a little apprehensive.
