TODAY’S READINGS A PRAYER FOR AUTUMN DAYS

God of the seasons, 1st Reading: 8:4-7 There is a time for everything. 2nd Reading: 1 Timothy 2:1-8 There is a time for dying and a time for rising. Gospel: Luke 16:1-13 We need courage to enter into the transformation process.

God of autumn, the trees are saying goodbye to their green, letting go of what has been. We, too, have our moments of surrender, with all their insecurity and risk. Help us to let go when we need to do so.

God of fallen leaves, lying in colored patterns on the ground. Our lives, too, have their own patterns. As we see the patterns of our growth, may we learn from them.

God of misty days and harvest moon nights, there is always the dimension of mystery and wonder in our lives. We need to recognize Your power-filled presence here. May we gain strength from this.

God of harvest wagons and fields of ripened grain, many gifts of growth lie within the season of our surrender. We must wait for our harvest in faith and hope. Grant us patience when we do not see the blessings.

God of geese going south for another season,

May Your wisdom enable us to know what needs to be left behind PAWS FOR PRAYERS and what needs to be carried into the future. St. Hilary Parish Liturgy Planning

Planning the Liturgical Year takes a considerable amount of energy. As we begin the planning for the coming year, a committee of volunteers is needed to make sure that the wishes of the parish can be addressed and that our celebrations are prepared with reverence, respect, and prayerful thought.

On Thursday, October 3, at 7PM, there will be a meeting of the current members of the Spiritual Life & Liturgy Team. If you are interested in becoming a part of this committee, please join us at this meeting. If you are interested, but unavailable for the meeting, please let me know.

There are several areas that need help with coordination and implementation. These areas include: The artistic preparation of the church environment for holidays – Christmas, Easter, other Holy Days • The artistic maintenance of the church environment during Ordinary Time • Planning Holy Day liturgies including Christmas and Easter • Planning seasonal liturgies including Advent and Lent • Planning Ordinary Time liturgies including special liturgies like: St. Hilary Feast Day, Thanksgiving Day, All Souls Day • Coordination of Acolytes – a new ministry of adult altar servers • Liturgical Ministry Leaders — Eucharistic Minsters & Ministers of Care, Lectors, Acolytes & Altar Servers, Ushers, Music • Research and development of seasonal materials that are offered to the parish at large • Assessing the needs and wants of the parish at large.

Your skills and volunteerism are needed! Those with an artistic eye, organizational skills, joy in working with children as well as adults, and a fresh sense of liturgy are needed! Please consider offering a bit of your time to help keep St. Hilary a vital and uplifting place of worship!

St. Hilary Spiritual Life & Liturgy Team Meeting Thursday, October 3, 7PM, in the Rectory

Come and enjoy the morning with your grandchild on Wednesday, September 25 from 8:10am to 10am. We will begin the celebration by attending the all-school Mass together. We will then return to the school and complete an activity together in your grandchild’s homeroom. If you can attend, please arrive promptly at 8:10am so we can walk over to Mass together. If you have multiple grandchildren, please go to the youngest grandchild. As you exit the building, please also feel free to visit our Scholastic Book Fair at the end of Grandparents’ Day at 10am. Hope to see you there!

Thank you to those who catch up with their giving after returning from vacation or being away from the church.

With North Park Village Chapel closed by the city, it is even more important that our parishioners from there make an extra effort to attend Mass at the church and contribute to its support. Your life is the witness of your faith. Please share it with others. Living Discipleship Through Spirit, The Archdiocese of Chicago benchmark for parishioners attending Saturday evening Gifts, and Service & Sunday Masses is over 800 with a gross revenue of $750,000 to be potentially “He cuts off every branch in me that sustainable. bears no fruit, while every branch We encourage our parishioners to use our online giving portals either by ACH or that does bear fruit He prunes so Give central (Https://www.givecentral.org/login). ARE YOU A - WHY?

Do you know what a Disciple is? Matthew 28:19-20 has a call for the Disciple: “Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely, I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Renew My Church has three imperatives: 1) Making Disciples, 2) Inspiring Witness, and 3) Building a Faith Community. We all go through the motions of being in church, but not understanding the WHY? John 15:2 explains it clearly - as a disciple, we have to bear fruit (the three imperatives); otherwise, we as a church or a parish will be like vines that need to be cut or pruned.

LET US PRAY FOR OUR PRIESTS AND DEACONS, FOR OUR PARISH, FOR ONE ANOTHER AND FOR OUR CHILDREN, AND FOR ALL WHO ARE PART OF OUR RMC PARISH GROUPING. Twenty-Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time September 22, 2019
