The Sustainability Rider by Flow Festival and encourages artists to make environmentally friendly choices

For the sixth time in a row, Neste works in cooperation with Flow Festival as the festivals environmental partner. This time, artists performing at the festival have been invited to take a stand for the protection of the environment. Held on 9.–11.8.2019 in Suvilahti, , Flow Festival is a carbon-neutral event which aims at minimizing the effects of emissions with comprehensive environmental work.

The frontrunners of sustainable solutions, Flow Festival and Neste, are cooperating in order to promote environmentally friendly choices in music events and everyday life. This year, the cooperation has given birth to a new concept, the Sustainability Rider. It presents a responsible option for traditional artist riders and encourages the artists in making sustainable choices.

The Sustainability Rider helps the artists in asking the events to pay attention to recycling, the compensation of flight emissions, environmentally friendly accommodation and transportation solutions, as well as reducing the usage of single-use products such as water bottles. The Sustainability Rider holds ready-to-use conditions the artist can add to their current contracts and thus develop the operations models of concert and event production into a more environment-friendly direction. In addition, Neste provides Flow with the Neste MY renewable diesel produced 100% from renewable raw materials to cover for the festival’s transportation and energy production needs.

Flow has developed the Sustainable Flow responsibility program

Sustainable Flow is Flow Festival’s very own responsibility program that ensures the festival takes into account the environmental responsibility of the festival as well as the social aspects of responsibility. Flow Festival is one of the world’s first carbon-neutral events. Flow calculates the total size of the carbon footprint of the festival-production annually in cooperation with Pöyry Oy and the footprint has been compensated with official standardized projects since 2009.

In addition, the festival aims at reducing its emissions annually. Flow makes responsible and durable solutions in all stages of event production, recycles and reuses all waste produced during the festival, and utilizes reusable and long-lasting materials. This year, Reaktor offers the chance for all festival visitors to donate their bottle deposits into the reforestation projects of the Finnish Association for Nature Conservation. Additionally,

Flow supports its food vendors in making dishes with a carbon footprint as low as possible with its Sustainable Meal training

Flow Festival is committed to promoting the principles of equality, equity, and justice, and creates operations models which make the festival accessible and safe for everyone. Read more about Sustainable Flow here: https://www.flowfestival.com/en/festival/sustainable-flow/
