Summer is just around the corner and morning tennis will be right behind it. Early morning tennis in the Woods on Water Street will continue through the 2019 season. Women and men of all ages are urged to join us at the beginning of the day when you can get in a lot of competitive fun tennis. During the regular eight-week recreation season (June 17 to August 9) we meet at the ideal time of 8:00am on Monday through Friday and at 9:00am on Saturday. Prior to and after the regular season, the start time fluctuates according to the wishes of those who are in attendance. We will be glad to explain our "sign-up procedure" if you stop by the Water Street Courts or if you call Jeff Bennett at 231-347-2466. FYI: Our annual tournament will be celebrating its 30th year of fierce competition the sixth week of Boy's and Girl's Club with play beginning on Monday, the week of July 22nd-26th, 2019. Remember to jot those dates on your summer calendar. We look forward to another year of tennis in Bay View. - Jeff Bennett A Message About… Though weather setbacks delayed our progress in developing Woods Courts 3 and 4 for pickle ball last summer, the project was finally completed. Those of you who were here at the very end of the season may have even gotten the chance to play on them. These courts were modified with blue-gray pickle ball lines on each side of the net allowing for four pickle ball courts to be available for play. The red back court and side of court areas of these courts were painted green to eliminate contrast and allow the pickle ball lines to extend outside the area of the tennis courts to minimize distraction. In addition, temporary pickleball nets on wheels were purchased, allowing for easy setup, depending on the needs of the court users. This will be the first season where we will actually see how well they work as multi-use courts, so we welcome feedback. We also encourage people, beginners and advanced players alike, to take advantage of these updated facilities and experience pickle ball. If you are interested in playing or learning the game, contact Dick Crossland. 2 Bay View Racquet Club Newsletter Winter/Spring 2019 Adult Tennis – Game, Set, Match!
