A Reception in Honor of Nelson Mandela

Nelson R. Mandela is the universally ac claimed leader of the African National Congress of South Africa. This acclaim stems from his uncompromising commit ment to a non-racial, democratic South Af rica, based on the principle of one person, one vote. His steadfastness on this principle led to his imprisonment for 27 years, during which he refused several offers of condi tional release, until his unconditional re lease on February 11 th of this year. As founder and first commander of the (the Spear of the Na tion), liberation army of the South African people, he has demonstrated and continues to demonstrate his willingness to die for this principle.
