1 REPORT ON THE YEARS ACTIVITIES:

The year ending 31st March, 1986, was marked by an increase in the work of the Revolving Fund Committees, both in the north and south of the FOREST LODGE County. The Committees are involved in compiling a list of historic buildings at risk from development, neglect or under the threat o f demolition 't ' from either or any reason. Each bui lding is examined, in some cases a feasibility study is commissioned, and owners or developers are contacted . It has often been the case that a new owner has been found or the present owner persuaded to repair or sympathetically restore a building previously at risk from a variety of causes.

,~ Some of the buildings involved were Shireo aks Station, Wiseton Lodges, ~ Drakeholes and properties in Bridgegate and Carolgate, East . Fol lowing the successes achieved in the City of the restora tion of 114/116 st. Step hens Road, Sneinton , was begun and studies for Manor Farm, Colwick and 34 High St.reet, Arnold, carried out .

The Trust were remeinb'ered 'in ' the will of the late Miss Britton, who left her property, No.73 Main Street , Papplewick, to the Trust with the hope that the building would be restored and either sold or let in accordance wi th her wishes. It is the intention of the Trust to deal with the property in a manner in which she would have appr oved .

The 1985 Annual General Meeting was held in the Cathedra l Hall, Nottingham. Following the business meeting, an illustrated talk was , given by Mr. Nigel Kerr on the subject of the re-listing of buildings of arc'tiffec:tural 'and "historic "' int erest within th~County . The matter was of particular interest as the work of re-ligting has gone ahead close ly wa'tcn'ed"-ilY" the irust which has' give 'n' advice on a number of buildings as appropriate. The Technical Advisers were invited to comment on one hundred and sixteen planning applications during the year, mainly concerning buildings in Conservation Areas or listed buildings elsewhere. The above photograph shows Forest Lodge after the renovation referred to on page 4 of the knnual Report, and was one of the properties Following a resolution made at the last A.C.M. the Trust made formal inspected by Mrs. Jennifer Jenkins on her visit to the County in June, objection to the de~olitionof Lambert ' s Factory, Nottingham, at the 1-985. Public Inquiry held into the matter, and the Inspector's decision is awaited with interest. Following the Norman Summers Memorial Fund appeal, work was carried out at Wollaton Hall to restore the dovecote in the Stable Block, and this was officially opened by the Lord Mayor in May. A plaque to the memory of Norman Summers will be pl aced in the new exhibition space adjacent to the dovecote. The newsletter has been printed in its new format with the hel p of voluntary te chnical assistance and contributions are welcome from members and friends. It is planned to publish the newsletter in t wo forms in the future, one as a "glosSY" publication with some academic conte nt, and the other as a more "chatty" news bulIetin .

3 TI,, ' T,·""l ,'cm two coach trips during the year. One was to Rocki ngham LI ST OF SUBSCRIBERS 1985/ 86 <:.,,,1 .1,· : onrt the other was a visit to three buildings designed by the ""' .101\. p.ct James Paine . (1717-1789).
