RBI launches Digital Payments Index The Reserve Bank of India on said it has constructed a composite Digital Payments Index (DPI) with March 2018 as the base period to capture the extent of digitisation of payments across the country. “The DPI for March 2019 and March 2020 work out to 153.47 and 207.84, respectively, indicating (an) appreciable growth,” RBI said in a statement. Going forward, RBI-DPI will be published on the central bank’s website on a semi-annual basis from March 2021 onwards with a lag of four March 2021 onwards with a lag of four months. Leon Mendonca becomes India’s 67th Grandmaster Goa’s 14-year-old Leon Mendonca has become India’s 67th chess Grandmaster by winning the third and final norm at a tournament in Italy. Mendonca, who achieved the feat at 14 years, 9 months and 17 days, is the second GM from the coastal state. Assam Rifles Public School becomes first Khelo India Sports School from North-East Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Kiren Rijiju on 4th Jan launched the Assam Rifles Public School (ARPS) in Shillong as a Khelo India Sports School. ISRO to adopt 100 Atal Tinkering Labs to promote scientific temperament ISRO will adopt 100 Atal Tinkering Labs across the country to promote scientific temperament among students and encourage them for space education and space technology-related innovations. This decision was taken by ISRO and Atal Innovation Mission, NITI Aayog at a virtual meeting on 11th Jan. ISRO to launch city college’s academic satellite ISRO chairman K Sivan is likely to inaugurate the ‘SriShakthiSat’ ground station at Sri Shakthi Institute of Engineering and Technology in Coimbatore. The station will help monitor the satellite developed by the institute, which is set to be launched by the ISRO. A satellite communication lab was established in the college in 2010. NASA finds the ‘Lost Galaxy’ Recently, the Hubble Space Telescope of NASA captured the images of the NGC 4535 which is also known as the “Lost Galaxy”. The image highlights that the young and hot stars that hang out are the bright blue spots. On the other hand, older and cooler stars are highlighted by the bright shades nearer to the center.
