Newsletter July 2014 Final ATHLETIC FUND INSIDE UCLA ATHLETICS DEVELOPMENT YOUR MONTHLY RESOURCE FOR SUPPORTING UCLA ATHLETICS AND THE WOODEN ATHLETIC FUND JULY 2014 “THANK YOU” FROM THE BRUINS Carolina Paini Women’s Rowing · Senior “I would not be the woman I am today without the assistance I had from you. I would like to thank you for supporting my teammates and myself throughout my four years at UCLA. With your contribution I was able to watch my team get faster every year and celebrate with my fellow student-athletes who added National Championship titles to our UCLA Athletics’ Hall of Fame. Thanks to your generous support, I had the true privilege to not only represent UCLA, but also the honor to compete as a member of the US National Rowing Team at the World Championships – an experience that I will never forget. CLICK HERE TO SEE PHOTOS FROM THE 2014 DIRECTOR’S DINNER MEET A MEMBER OF YOUR UCLA ATHLETICS DEVELOPMENT TEAM Alicia Junker Assistant Director of Development, Donor Engagement Hometown: College: Southern Illinois University Carbondale, Sport Management, 2012 Start Date with UCLA Athletics Development: I was hired on with UCLA Athletics in June 2012 as a full-time Development Intern. During this internship, I was promoted to Development Coordinator, where I ultimately worked with our donors to help create and ensure a quality donor experience, as well as oversaw certain special events and the THEN NOW FOREVER football tailgate. I am honored to have recently been promoted to Assistant Director of Development, Donor Engagement. As Assistant Director of Development, I will continue to work directly with donors in the effort to ensure a quality donor/fan experience. In addition, I will assist with major gift and annual fund units of UCLA Athletics Development, continue to oversee the Inside UCLA Athletics Development newsletter, sport specific fundraising for UCLA Athletics’ Swimming/Diving and Rowing, UCLA Campus Parking, and our Courtesy Car Dealer Program. I am also managing our two main fundraisers we have ever year to help raise much-needed support for our student-athletes – Bruins at the Beach and the Revelry Before the Rivalry. It has been an amazing and humbling experience to be able to start my professional career at a place like UCLA. As a former student-athlete myself, I have a newfound appreciation for donors who help support the experiences of competing student-athletes. With 111 National Championships and the launch of our Centennial Campaign, I am excited to be a part of the unyielding momentum and tradition of excellence that is UCLA and UCLA Athletics. Go Bruins! Favorite UCLA Memory / Experience: Beating Arizona 75-71 to win the 2014 PAC-12 Conference Championship in Las Vegas. Favorite Professional Sports Team: LA Dodgers Favorite Westwood Restaurant: 800 Degrees Favorite John Wooden Quote: "It isn't what you do, but how you do it." Unique Fact About Yourself: I played softball for 17 years, I love breakfast for dinner and it is on my bucket list to go on a real African Safari. Message to Our Donors: As a former student-athlete, I sincerely appreciate individuals like you who generously support and enhance the experiences of our competing Bruins. It is a true privilege to be a part of an institution and athletic legacy with such a dedicated and passionate support system. Thank you for all you have done and continue to do for UCLA and UCLA Athletics.
