THE LUTHER GULICK CAMPS BOOKLET AND WINTER NUMBER OF THE WOHELO BIRD 1922 THE CALL There’s a great wild pull For the spring has bloomed That’s come into my heart, In a goldeny mist Like the pull of the wind on the sea. Of willow buds, sap and tears, There’s a far, far call. And the fleecy sky Flute-sweet and small, Gives promise shy Like the song of new sap in the tree. Of the "country that knows no fears." There’s a restless joy, And my heart feels tied And a glad, dull ache, And calls out to be free, And a longing to understand For it longs for the woods and the earth, The meaning that lies And a fire’s soft light In butterflies, In the velvet night And sunsets, and stars, and sand. When dreams dare bloom to birth. I must go with the pull That has hold of my heart; I must touch the warm earth and be free And I have no choice But to follow the voice Of the haunting joy-to-be.
